Does coffee make you aggressive?

I made the mistake of offer my friend, Lucy, a cup of coffee when she visited my house a couple of days ago. She got quite annoyed over it saying that coffee was making people aggressive all over the world. I insisted that it didn't make me aggressive. She said I probably didn't drink enough of it. I told her I usually had about 6 cups a day and on top of that I also drink Pepsi Max. She told me cola was almost as bad as coffee. She then went on about supersized cups of coffee and how McDonald and similar chains sells them.

I mentioned that Big Phil, who is often sitting outside the Gloria Jean Coffee Shop at my local shopping centre, is a very mellow person despite his obviously heavy coffee drinking. She said "I hate him". I said "I didn't know you knew him". She said "He is so loud all the time". I told her she was obviously referring to someone else. She was actually talking about some Canadian guy not Phil. I asked her if she had ever talked to the Canadian guy. She said she hadn't talked to him but hated him because he talks so loudly.

I thought, that for a non-coffee drinker she was acting very aggressive.

I thought it might be a result of the caffeine in her cups of tea but she said tea doesn't affect people in the same way as coffee or cola does.

So I am asking you folks if you think that drinking coffee makes you aggressive?

Coffee gives me heart palpitations and sets off anxiety attacks, but it doesn't make me aggressive.

Coffee makes me rather ill. I still drink it anyway. I don't really like any condiments in my coffee, which probably makes it worse. Never gotten aggressive from it though, unless you count being cranky from an upset stomach.

Also, yes, it makes me poop.

I get aggressive or moody when I don't get coffee (or soda). I'd been going through soda withdrawals the past few days, and it was hell. I get a Diet Pepsi finally yesterday, and everything is all right.

i have had an allergic reaction to it if i have too much..
but agressive no..
though there is a study coffee may help protect women against strokes :)

Not drinking coffee tends to make me aggresive. I'm a major caffeine addict. If I go one day without drinking it, it triggers a bad migraine. The last time I tried to give it up, I had the worst migraine I've ever had, I nearly collapsed and spent four days in bed. Housemate is a big coffee drinker too (not as bad as me) and the speed at which we go through jars of coffee is terrifying sometimes!

Maybe it's the refined sugar that is usually added she's talking about? Same for the coke. Coffee doesn't make me aggressive, but it makes me hyper, and if I drink more than one cup, it makes me nauseous. Sugar, makes me as high as a kite as well, then I crash afterwards, and I can feel quite moody.

Too much of anything is never good, all things in moderation and all that. I don't think there's any harm at all in a single cup of coffee every now and then. However, if you're on 6 cups a day, and you suffer from arthritis, you might want to look into that.

Very funny that your ill-humoured friend was accusing others of being unpleasant! :D

Coffee is the true nectar of the Gods, and it does not make me aggressive.

Boston drivers ..., now they make me aggressive.

Coffee just makes me feel better. It doesn't do anything to me apart from that. To be honest, most of the time, I can take it or leave it.

I will drink around 7 cups of coffee or more in a day, everyday. I am probably one of the most laid back and mellow people (that's not a stoner) you could meet.

I think your friend has some ridiculous ideas about coffee!
Coffee makes me poop.

Yes it's a great emetic.

You mean laxative, right? Or does coffee really make you vomit?
I find the first is true, ad I read somewhere that it's because the caffeine relaxes the anal sphincter, though I don't remember where I read that, so I would't take it as gospel.

I don't know exactly what the caffeine does, but yeah, it's because of the caffeine. I love it, personally.

If I don't have a latte in the morning, I tend to be sluggish and sleepy. I never used to be this way, but then it got cold this winter and I started making frequent visits to Starbucks on my way to work, and now I've developed a mild chemical dependency on the caffeine. Oops.

As for the OP, no, it definitely does not make me aggressive. It makes me happy.

My breakfast most days consists of a cup of coffee and a cigarette. Probably not the healthiest thing, but it makes me happy!

How much I drink in a day depends on how I feel (sometimes I just feel like drinking tea instead) but it's always at least one cup. Today is a 'lots of coffee' day. I've been awake for about 5 hours and I'm on my fourth cup. Plus I drink it twice as strong as people usually do so it technically counts as my seventh and eighth.

I think I have a problem.
