Doctor Who Classic on YouTube

I brought up the first couple of releases on the channel over in the Classic episode viewing thread, but the releases started becoming so prolific that I didn't want to overwhelm that thread, so I decided to start it's own thread on the subject, which I probably should have done in the first place.

An official BBC YouTube Doctor Who channel dedicated to complete releases of classic episodes has been dropping new arcs in their entirety for a couple weeks now. Sadly, the channel does not seem to be available in all regions, probably due to distribution agreements.

As of this writing, these complete arcs are legally available on the channel.

First Doctor:
The Aztecs

Second Doctor:
The Enemy of the World

Third Doctor:
Invasion of the Dinosaurs
The Time Warriors
The Sea Devils
Spearhead from Space
Day of the Daleks

Fourth Doctor:
Warriors Gate
City of Death
Genesis of the Daleks

Fifth Doctor:
Warriors of the Deep
Time-Flight
Four to Doomsday

Sixth Doctor:
Vengeance on Varos

Seventh Doctor:
The Happiness Patrol

With more seemingly added on a daily basis. This channel is a great resource for those who don't have access to Classic Who. That said, there is actually a larger selection of episodes already available on Tubi if you have access to that.

Of course it's not available for Canadians. What is the effing point of this? I am so damned tired of always being geoblocked for not living in the UK or the US.

It's a good thing I've already seen all of this thanks to PBS in the '80s, because if this is an attempt to win new viewers, they're going about it exactly the wrong way.

That sucks. Likewise for Germany, apparently.

...this is crazy. I would have never expected to see full serials uploaded without a paywall or anything. Even better, the videos retain the cliffhangers and full opening and closing credits of each episode, instead of being forcibly edited without them.

Honestly, I'm surprised it's available in America considering how much we're not allowed to watch on iPlayer (which is essentially everything, I think, even with a VPN). Like Turtletrekker suggested, it might be a distribution agreement issue, one that might change in the relative future (again, see iPlayer and America).

Not available here. Darn it.
Would be great if I could watch it through youtube as it's so easy to watch things on youtube and no need to worry about subscriptions.

Use Opera as your browser. It comes with a built in free VPN and I've tested it by setting it to America and got the US exclusive ones no problem.

Looks like they're dropping two stories a day.

I still suggest getting the Blu Rays for the special features.

Well, I can't say that I was expecting to get the animated reconstructions as well. Although, I think I would have preferred the black and white.:(

The Mind Robber just dropped.
Interesting. I'm not seeing it, nor anything from season 6. And it's not as if we are in different regions, we seem to live in the same state.

ETA: The playlist for the Second Doctor says it has five videos, but when I click on the playlist, it tells me that there are three unavailable videos.

ETA Again: All of the Doctor's playlists except for Six have hidden videos.

There's something called a VPN that will let you watch shows from other countries, Timewalker; here's a browser with one built into it.

Thanks, but I had to get rid of Opera. It was giving me all kinds of problems, so I pretty much had to nuke it.

It's a shame, since it had some good features. But something went wrong, and that was that.

Are there any others you'd recommend?

The Faceless Ones, which dropped earlier today makes, if you count the oddball release on the main channel, the fourth Second Doctor story and the second animated reconstruction to be released.

They've also released two from the Seventh Doctor, four from the Fourth Doctor, five from the Fifth Doctor and a whopping eight from the Third Doctor. In the meantime, the First Doctor and the Sixth Doctor still only have the one. What's up with that, BBC? I want more Hartnell.

I'm amazed they didn't put out the B&W ones, leaving the "goldmine of glorious colour" to be specific to the purchased home video sets only. Still lovely to have available since not all regions get the show, and the Classic era needs more luv.

I definitely wasn't expecting them to release this story anytime soon, if at all, leaving only "the usual assortment of fan-favourites" available to see.

Given the time it takes to encode and upload for mass viewing, combined with (how many staff are doing this) combined with how one story accidentally got released with its episodes in the wrong order, I'm just happy they're releasing them, in any format, for free, at all.

Found it! It's not on the Doctor Who Classic channel, it's on the main Doctor Who channel!

Not sure why it'd end up the main channel, unless it's the next story to receive the partial colourization, after omnibus editing and re-scoring? That would be a fun experiment, tally up some numbers for it, then do colourization if the numbers are there, release it, chalk up the new shiny colorful numbers, and compare under the same tallying conditions (both up for x months, comparing qualifiers to recognize repeat viewings (which can count), etc.)
