DIC G.I. Joe-WTF?

I watched "The Secret of Cobra-La", which I thought had some amusing scifi concepts in it. There are dumb G.I. Joe moments, but I enjoyed the bio-tech of the denizens of Cobra-La. Cobra commander gets changed into a snake. So I'm watching this on you tube and I see a title-"DIC G.I. Joe-The return of Cobra Commander." I click it and it is some sort of really low quality version of G.I.Joe.

I'm not saying the original show was the best animated show in the world, but this one makes the original look like a Disney Feature film. I didn't realize the show went on after the Cobra-La movie. The show still had Chris Latta as the voice of Cobra Commander and Destro was the same voice, but the rest was super shit.

The thing I liked most about the Cobra-La storyline was their chant. Cobra-lalalalalalalala

I remember really liking the GI Movie when I was a kid, but it doesn't hold up nearly as well as (and doesn't have near the production values of) the Transformers film.

Golobulus was pretty cool, though. Cobra-lalalalala is an awesome chant.

And they didn't kill off Duke because the company got death threats after they killed off Optimus Prime.

Yeah, plans for a third season of Sunbow produced GI JOE were on the table, then from what I gather, Dic made a lowball offer and Hasbro took it, since they'd been paying for the cartoon's production up to that point. (See, it really was advertizing, as was Transformers, Jem, etc.)

Destro didn't have the same voice in the Dic animation. But a few of the original voice cast returned for the Dic series, Sgt. Slaughter in Dragonfire and the 1990 Dic Season. (Then his contract with Hasbro ended and he moved on to becoming a WWF heel). Chris Latta (billed as Christopher Collins, IIRC) as Cobra Commander at least in Dragonfire and the 1990 season, he may have been replaced by an imitator in the 1991-1992 season. Morgan Lofting as the Baroness in Dragonfire. And Ed Gilbertm who did General Hawk's voice, was in the 1990 season (replaced in 1991).

One of the more amusing Dic episodes in AN OFFICER AND A VIPERMAN, where 3 Joes join Cobra to uncover an information leak. It's still pretty bad.

Oh, and 2 Dic episodes were just clip shows.

Basically, Dic sucked dick. The only good thing they did was Inspector Gadget and they fudged that up in its last season.

BTW, Cobra-La was placeholder name by a the Sunbow series editor Buzz Dixon, but Hasbro loved it...so it stayed.

Indeed, that too was lame.

I wonder if Conway ever made it out alive. :(
