Diamond Select Art Asylum ships

Pardon me if this is a topic that has been posted before, but I was inspired to post this thread, thanks to June's article here http://www.trektoday.com/content/2015/06/trek-diamond-select-toys-at-san-diego-comic-con/ , but didn't want to highjack this thread here: http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=213883

Anyway, I am not much of a collector when it comes to toys, but I do have one guilty pleasure when it comes to Diamond Select/Art Asylum. Obviously, some here have some pretty large Star Trek collections (no doubt dwarfing mine!), but I was wondering if other people here would mind sharing about their Diamond Select/Art Asylum ship collections?

Just to encourage discussion, I happen to have acquired the following:

TOS USS Enterprise NCC-1701
TWOK USS Enterprise NCC-1701
GEN USS Enterprise NCC-1701-B
TNG USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D
TNG USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E
ENT USS Enterprise NX-01 Battle Damaged

Today, I just ordered these, and they are on the way:

TUC USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A
TSFS USS Excelsior NX-2000
TUC USS Excelsior NCC-2000

I wish Diamond Select/Art Asylum would produce the following:

USS Reliant
USS Defiant NX-74205
USS Voyager
Star Trek 2009/STID USS Enterprise

Plus, I wouldn't mind if they released some repaints of TOS Enterprise, bearing the names of the other constitution class ships depicted in TOS. I know the Defiant was released at Comicon, but I think this would be something that they could easily do.

I love their ships, although the detailing on some of their most recent ones has gotten a little spotty - I'm looking at you, TUC Enterprise A.

I've gotten the following:
USS Enterprise from "The Cage"
USS Enterprise, production version
Refit Enterprise NCC-1701
Refit Enterprise NCC-1701-A (original 2003 release, with better paintjob & decal work)
USS Enterprise-B
USS Enterprise-D
USS Enterprise-E

I wish that they would make the Enterprise-C so I could have a complete lineage display.

Oh, I forgot, I have the AGT Enterprise-D, too.

The ships I have so far don't have anything to complain about, but I have also read about some quality issues with recent releases too. I know that there are complaints about the Enterprise-As and TUC Excelsiors, but I am hoping I get lucky. But the reason I got into these Diamond Selects in the first place was I suck at model painting, and these are far better than I could ever do, even if there are flaws.

Have you heard if there was a change in factories, or even country these are produced in, to account for the drop in QC?

Also, I know what you mean about wanting the entire Enterprise lineage. the E-C is the only one I am missing, if you count the Playmates Iconic Vehicle reboot USS Enterprise (I didn't list that one since its not a Diamond Select). That one is passable, but I wish Diamond Select would create their version.

I wouldn't mind a re-release of the NX-01, too, since they are now out of production and crazy expensive. On amazon, they go for $120+.

I only have the series version on the TOS Enterprise. Very happy with it.

I have the refit Enterprise-A. I love it.

I have all of their phasers. In fact, the SFS phaser just came a couple of weeks ago. It's very nice. I also have the sciences tricorder. My only complaint is I wish the toy props had some more heft to the, they look great and have great functionality, but the would feel more realistic if they were just a little heavier.

I would not mind hearing about the TUC Excelsior as compared to the other Excelsior variants, both TSFS and ENT-B.

I'm not in the position to acquire them all but that one and the TOS Enterprise are under consideration.

^^^Well, I can say if you could only chose one to get, I think the TOS Enterprise high definition is the one to get. However, on Amazon at least, they are going for $170, now, so they are pricey. I got mine when they were still around $50 a couple years back. The crimson nacelle lights are what sells me. And that is coming from a TMP-refit fan.

However, if that is too high (I personally wouldn't pay $170, either) Diamond Select has another TOS version. I don't know if it is the same as the high def one or not, but it's for $50, and IMHO, would probably be the next best thing considering the price*: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Ori...r=8-14&keywords=diamond+select+USS+enterprise

I haven't seen it in person, but from what I can tell in the picture, it looks like it is the same exact mold, but maybe a little less detail on the paint job. If I didn't already have mine, I think I would be totally comfortable this later model.

(*In fact, I didn't go over $50 + tax on any of the ships I bought. $50 was my personal ceiling on price, and I spread out the purchases so as not to hurt too much.)

I know the person who makes the masters for this line of ships- he told me the biggest problem was trying to communicate with the factory. They do not understand what the details do that these have and kept reinterpreting. One example was on the Enterprise D they though the life pod hatched were some sort of decoration stripe and would change the size of the squared as they swept back the the aft. Some issues were with factory production being rushed- the AGT Enterprise had the first batch leave without any graphics on the neck pylon- DS did make good on this by offering a decal or sticker so you could put them on yourself.
All in all I thing AA/DS does a pretty good job making prop & ship replicas- I wish I had the budget to get the complete line.

For the money I paid for each ship, I would have spent at least as much on a model, plus paint, cement, and I wouldn't have done half as well. Plus, these have lights and sound effects. I feel I received a good buy on all of the Diamond Select ships I have.

They were charging $87.40 for the Excelsior, Bird of Prey and Enterprise B for so long now, the stairway to the second floor was starting to get blocked by over a dozen of each lately.

They finally got it through their skulls no one was buying them the last three years and why the comic section (upstairs) wasn't doing so well.

So they had a sale on, I was just lucky to turn up for the last few of them going, snapped up the last Ent B.

I hve an NX-01 Art Asylum ship from about 15 years ago or so. I wish I could have gotten a TOS Enterprise too. Love that ship. $170 is just to much to spend though on something that would just sit on my shelf right now. :(

I think they're suppose to be releasing another version in the not too distant future.

More pics to come, when the new ones arrive, but here is a pic of what I have so far, minus the NX01.

Oh, I forgot, I have the AGT Enterprise-D, too.

Now how to you get it to play through the different sound effects?

On the production version, the panel is above the main shuttlebay--but on the ALL GOOD THINGS dreadnaught, there is some sensor-torpedo thingy--and I'm afraid I'll break it--like I do everything else.

There's two different buttons: on the bridge, which plays the sounds and flashes the lights, and below the third nacelle, near the impulse engine. If you've removed the saucer, sometimes it doesn't make a good connection, so try resetting it.
