I love The Charlie Daniels Band's "Devil Went Down to Georgia", and I just saw that new insurance advert with Charlie Daniels and it put me in the mood for the song, so I went to one of the Youtubes to watch the video. I start typing in the search field, and of course it offers suggestions as I get a few letters into typing, the first one was what I wanted, so I quit typing and hit the down arrow and "ENTER" We all know exactly what I'm talking about, I assume.

Anyway, I wasn't really paying attention, then I realized what I'd actually searched for is "The Devil Went Down to George"... A ton of people had named their videos that!

The reason it's LOL worthy is, because, in the LYRICS of the song, the hero says, "MY NAME IS JOHNNY".

Do these people get to vote?

I've never heard that music-mistake before. We've all heard of some, but this was a first for me.

I'm sure we've had this thread at some point in the past, but it's been years, so let's do it agian? What's your favorite lyric misunderstanding?

I like:

Hendrix: Excuse me while I kiss the sky
Some heard: Excuse me while I kiss this guy

Dylan: The answer my friends...
Some: The ants are my friends....

A guy named Gavin Edwards has published several collections of hilarious misheard lyrics; unfortunately, he hasn't done one in a while.

"She's got electric boobs, a mohair suit...."

My 2 personal favorites would be:

"Hang on stupid, stupid hang on"

Hang on Sloopy - The McCoys

and of course

"There's a bathroom on the right"

Bad Moon Rising - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Whenever I hear the Go-Gos sing "Our Lips Are Sealed" I think,

'Who is Alex the Seal, and why are they singing about him?' :D

You should check out the cover by Green Jelly. Awesome music video.

I saw Charlie Daniels perform that live in 2008; it was pretty awesome.

Not a song played on the radio, but to this day my husband and i argue over the lyrics to "The Addams Family".

I sing, "So come and get your shawl on, a rooster you can crawl on"

He says it's "A group that you can call on".

Although i think it is actually, "A broomstick you can crawl on".

I like my version better!

"Baking Carrot Biscuits" (Taking Care of Business)

"Thirty Thieves and the Thunder Chief" (Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap)

Also there's some Bob Marley song with a line "We will cook cornmeal porridge" which kind of sounds like "We will cook Maury Povich"

Elton John songs seemed to be ripe for these when I was growing up.

I remember thinking, in Daniel, he was saying "... red teal eyes ..." instead of "red taillights." :alienblush:

And in Tiny Dancer I heard "... lay me down cuz she's so pretty ..." instead of "lay me down in sheets of linen."

John Fogerty will occasionally use the misheard lyric "There's a bathroom on the right" on the last verse or so of "Bad Moon on the Rise". :guffaw:

You want to talk misheard lyrics, listen to the Kingsmen's version of "Louie Louie". :guffaw:

Fun fact: That song, as written, has absolutely no dirty words of any kind. The problem is twofold: 1) The Kingsmen were drunk off their ass when singing it, and 2) The song's lyrics have a pronounced Jamaican 'accent' which kind of throws people off.

They way I heard it was the audio track was out of line and did record clearly enough thats why everyone thought it was dirty.
