Dennis Farina Arrested At LAX

Sister_with_Dennis_Farina1.jpg

Farina: "I told you we should'a put it in your panties ..."

I heard on the news this morning that the said weapon was found to be unregistered, bumping this up from a misdemeanor to a felony.

especially since he didn't have a permit to carry it concealed in the first place. Hard to be ok with this one, but have a problem with a Muslim with a handgun tucked into his waistband...
Where did I say I would have a problem with that? The only time I have a problem with someone having a gun is when no one else is allowed to.

The man did nothing wrong. :(
If he was carrying a concealed (and loaded!) weapon without a license/permit, then yes, he did do something wrong.

I carry a concealed, loaded pistol on my person at all times legal. I have a permit.

I shouldn't have to have a permit, and it should always be legal.

I feel the man did no wrong.

Regardless of your feelings, he broke the law. Period. It doesn't matter what anyone feels. This isn't third grade.

He broke the law. He tried to take a loaded weapon on a plane.

It's not like this law is a surprise to ANYONE. It's been there for years. Hell, everyone knows you can't take WATER through security any more.

Ignorance, feelings aside, he broke the law. And as I recall breaking the law is wrong. That's why it comes with punishment.

Dennis Farina who played detective Joe Fontana on Law & Order forgot he had a gun in his briefcase and was arrested at LAX when he tried to board a plane. Oops.

"Farina was very apologetic and cooperative with officers," police said. "However, he had no apparent authority to carry a concealed weapon at the time of his arrest."

The actor was booked on one misdemeanor count of carrying a loaded firearm, and his bail was set at $25,000.

Was he taken in to the 27th precinct? ;)

In this instance, no one else is allowed to have one, either. You're saying you don't have a problem with him having one, so trying to figure out where the line is for you, I suppose...

I have a big problem with voluntary compliance no gun rules. Also known as "Only law abiding citizens leave their guns."

I have a smaller problem with the ban on aircraft - at least they screen EVERYONE so the playing field is level.

Although... hmmm, let me find a post I made on another board about a communication I sent to TSA:
Below is a message I got back from TSA about the poor safety procedures they have in place in Greensboro, NC. My original message to them is included.

I really see a potential security threat here, and I'm not sure if they're going to do anything about this issue, or are just bsing back with a form letter!

Thank you for your email message.
TSA has received comments and suggestions on this issue from other travelers. TSA has identified this issue and we are working to establish an appropriate policy to address this concern.

As changes and enhancements to aviation security are implemented TSA publicizes Traveler Tips in local and national media, as well as on its website at http://www.TSATravelTips.us, to aid travelers with the enhanced screening processes.

This pertains to GSO TSA handling of declared and checked firearms.
Unlike every other terminal I fly out of, at GSO when you declare a firearm you are escorted away from the main area to their lower level. They then take your unlocked firearm(s) and ammunition into the secure area where they do their inspection and then lock the gun case. This has bothered me for some time. I feel that this methodology could easily allow someone with evil motives a way to move a firearm in the secure area. I had always seen the TSA logic on firearms handling as "keep it locked in the secure area," yet GSO (Greensboro, NC) seems to differ from every other airport I fly in and out of.
Concerned,
*****

I was going to leave the fact alone since it was a different message board, but now I can you Poodle here as well.

More from the LA Times today:

Los Angeles International Airport police took no chances Sunday with the former "Law and Order" actor, who was teased for his poor shooting skills during his earlier career as a Chicago police officer.

(snip)

LAX police run into this problem--of passengers forgetting they have guns in their carry-on luggage--regularly, Holcomb said. Most of the roughly 10 incidents a month involve police officers traveling as civilians.

"People don't get it," Holcomb said. "When you go to an airport, the only people that can carry a gun are federal agents."

Man. Gun owners who show they are not responsible...ie, forget they have a gun on them...are just ridiculous. Throw the book at them.

Please don't take this as condescending or insulting, as it is not meant to be. I'm just going to ask because I'm curious.

Why do you carry a gun around with you?

I ask because in the UK, we don't seem to have the same attitude to guns. Over here they are pretty much reviled by everyone as horrible killing things.

To carry an item around, that is designed entirely to kill another human being, with such pride just seems immensely alien to me.

Again, not meaning to demean your opinion in any way, would just like to here your perspective if you wish to share it.

How do you forget you're carrying a gun?:wtf:
You don't.

That said, when I fly I am always freaked out that I will forget my gun in my bag. I check it about 27,000 times.
I just know I'm going to regret this...

Why do you feel the need to carry a gun with you on a plane?
I don't carry a gun with me on a plane, nor do I feel the need to. I said I think everyone should be ALLOWED to though.

Read here. Then reread it.
If you have any questions at that point about my attitude towards carying a "weapon designed to kill" reread the last page 5 times.

Why was he leaving anyway? Farina loves LA, "They say the fucking smog is the fucking reason you have such beautiful fucking sunsets."

How do you forget you're carrying a gun?:wtf:

To play devil's advocate, you can forget there's supposed to be something wrong with carrying a gun. The man's a former cop, he probably gives no more thought to the gun he's carrying than to the tie he's wearing.
Why is that playing devil's advocate? I have a loaded gun with 13 rounds on my right hip, and 2 mags with 24 rounds on my left hip.

I FAIL to see what's wrong with that!

Where do you live, at the OK Corral?

Are you expecting to be in a shoot out everywhere you go?
