Deanna Troi's Outfits

The two in the middle of the pic are the best look. The grey being the best.
I'm a fan of cleavage, but I have to say I like the uniform the best, with the miniskirt uniform coming in second.

+1 for the long teal-blue dress. I really liked the unique neckline. I felt it added just the right amount of femininity to her look and complimented her hairstyle very well. Overall my favorite look on her.

just in case you didn't see it:

I've always felt that that image made her look a little bit taller given the way it appears to have been filmed. Also, har hair is slightly different there.

I liked the green dress. First, she was just real pretty wearing it. Second, I preferred when she had like a quasi-starfleet/ill-defined role. I always assumed that she went through different training and was in a position that was starfleet but like a diplomatic core where the rules were more civilian. Like normally she would be a psychiatrist contracted with Starfleet but since it was a ship with families on a semi-diplomatic mission she was given a commission and assigned that duty. I don't know that I can back that up, but it just seemed to me when I first saw TNG she had separate training and background. She seemed like a talented diplomat and ships counselor. She was a good contrast to the more military minded Riker on Picard's other side. The uniform just made her another officer and made it seem strange to me that she was just sitting there chiming in but didn't really have something she was operating. I don't know, it just diminished her unique quality to me. That being said, just from a purely "wow she is pretty" perspective, she really looks cute in the uniform. Less cleavage but more, tight sweater look. And now that I've stated sufficiently sexist opinions...

I think the dress made her look taller. It was the length that did that, and the way it fitted.

She looked quite beautiful there too with the way the dress was and her hair. Better then her regular uniform
yes i agree completely. Thats an excellent point about the dress making her look taller. It was deffinately so much better than her regular uniform (which she also looked good in) but that dress is deffinately my personal favourite.

Let's face it, she should have been in uniform, but regardless, they put her in those dresses to show her physique.

RAMA
After some thinking, I've come to the decision that Troi's best outfit for me was that blue dress that she wore in Seasons 3 & 4.

I did like her other outfits including the regular Starfleet uniform she wore from the middle of Season 6 (Chain Of Command) until the finale too.

She looked her absolute best IMO at the start of the episode "Family". To me her look in that particular episode is her most iconic look.

If you mean the miniskirt uniform from the pilot, yeah i agree. Think the idea there was to try and provide a sense of continuity between TOS and TNG. I have to admit that I do like it as well.

It's a weak link even if it's fun. I mean surely by that time period the TOS dresses wouldn't even be still in style.

Well maybe not the TOS-style dresses, true enough. I believe that Marina has said that (or at least given the impression) that the producers weren't too sure about her character in that first season (thusly the reason why Troi had so many different outfits) so that might explain the miniskirt uniform.

yes i agree with some of your points there. I always felt that Troi was the ship's conscience as well as its counsellor so by being the ship's counsellor,/psychologist, she would have had to appear a little bit less formal (hence the blue dress). A standard uniform would possibly have made crew members feel a little bit threatened so, perhaps it wasn't a bad idea to have had her in something a little bit more casual.
