like I said in a previous post, I had the distinct honor of meeting D.O.S in the late 80s. My mom played violin for a local Michigan symphony orchestra in a city near where I grew up.
David was a guest conductor for the second half of a concert. Being that my mom was a member of the orchestra, I was able to go back stage, which I did at every concert. When I approached him, he was very pleasant, and down to earth, the polar opposite of Charles. We chatted for a few minutes, and I said that I almost called him Charles. Remember this was only about 4 years after M*A*S*H ended. He laughed and was also pleased that not only was a big M*A*S*H fan, but also a huge fan of classical music. He was impressed that I knew the encore piece that the guest pianist, that he conducted, played. This was a few years before he played Timicin, but I remember thinking, ”I met him”.
I also asked him if the conducting that he did in G.F.A, was his idea, and he said yes. He is a gifted conductor.
