David (Harry Potter) Yates to direct Doctor Who The Movie!

^ So your sole 'evidence' in favour of your rather sweeping assertion about the BBC is to refer to a show produced and cancelled by ITV?!

A woman/non-white playing the Docotor has been mentioned several times of the course of the shows history. Sure it could be done, but the big question to answer is why? From an in-universe point of view.

If you are doing just to be "Political correct" you aren't treating your audiance with respect. They'll see through it as a blatent attempt to be seen to bowing to pressure from different groups. It does them a disservice as well, they don't want special treatment they want equal treatment.

You here talk about positive discrimination i..e. women only shortlist for MP's. I don't care if my MP is black/white, male/female etc.. I just want the parties to field the best candidate they can.

which is why i'd be happy with a black or Asian Doctor. But i still think a woman is wrong. not being sexist, but the Doctor's been a bloke for nigh-on fifty years, so let's stick with that, eh? plus, like i've said before, it's confusing enough for young kids to accept that, hey, the wacky guy in the bow-tie's not the Doctor anymore, it's this new black guy with a crewcut (or whatever) without trying to get them to accept that the doctor's now a woman.

^ It did keep shoehorning in these ethnic minority actors like Nick Berry, Bill Maynard, Geoffrey Hughes, Derek Fowlds, John Duttine, Niamh Cusack, Peter Firth, Joe McFadden, Tim Brooke-Taylor. Political correctness gone mad, I tell you!

Come on now, it's not as ridiculously PC as Misommer Murders at least...

Whoever plays the Doctor should be the best person to play the Doctor, be their white black brown green male female whatever. Personally I think it should always be a bloke but I wouldn't completely write the show off if they hired a bird...

Unless it was Amanda Holden maybe:wtf:

I'm in the same mind as you, though like Cabot Cove, Midsomer sounds like a place to move away from. Better life expectancy. ;)

Every time someone mentions Lindsay Lohan I think of the parody of her they do on Robot Chicken.
Heh, I'm not familiar with that, but, I always think of the Superficial Friends (Super Friends Parody starring Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, the Olsen Twins, and Nicole Richie) which I don't imagine is any kinder than the Robot Chicken Parody

Just when you thought it was over, Steven Moffat spoke out on the subject of David Yates' project:

There isn't a film. That was all some weird fantasy going on somewhere. Look, we hopefully will do a Doctor Who film someday. It will be absolutely run by the Doctor Who production office in Cardiff. It will feature the same Doctor as on television. It will not be a rebooted continuity. All of that would be insane. So that whole proposal was not true, did not happen. I can say that with authority because, as far as the BBC is concerned, I'm the voice of Doctor Who. So if I say it, it's true.

Aw, bless. He seems to be getting more and more frustrated that he can't make it all go away just by saying so. Before long any journalist who brings it up will hear, "I AM THE GOD OF ALL DOCTOR WHO. IT SURVIVES THROUGH ME. DO NOT BLASPHEME! DO NOT BLASPHEME! DO NOT BLASPHEME!" ;)

Okay, that would be amusing. :)

In a way, I feel some pity for Moffat. It can't be easy to be asked a project he has no control over and nothing to do with, and now he's getting questions for things outside his purview -- the BBC Worldwide film and Elementary -- with both of his signature projects.

The surprising thing, really, is that he doesn't have better scripted answers to these obvious questions. Benedict Cumberbatch comes off as total class when asked about Elementary, but Moffat reacts with the emotional maturity of a three year-old. And every time Moffat says that Yates was speaking off the cuff about something he doesn't know about, I think about the YouTube videos of Yates, when asked, pausing thoughtfully and giving as thorough an answer a possible.

Aaaand still no official word from anyone proving there's such a movie in the works except a couple of comments by one man. Comments that are now approaching nine months old.

Sounds to me like Moffat's right.
