"Datalore" Lore vs. Worf scene

This aired on H&I not too long ago. A lot of people seem to famously remember this episode for its "Shut up, Wesley" lines.

But the one scene that i like this episode for is that Turbolift showdown that had occurred between "Data" and Worf (Lore in Data's uniform).

So... it's Worf and two, maybe three, security people following him down a corridor, which Worf enters and is surprised to find Lore waiting there. There is no time for Worf to react as Lore calls out "Emergency close!" instantly causing the doors to whoosh shut in the face of the security guys.

Mistake #1: Worf draws a phaser real fast. But Lore chops that thing out of his hand even faster and declares "Now show me your warrior fierceness," challenging to a hand-to-hand combat showdown.

Mistake #2: Instead of trying to call for help, calling for the doors to reopen, or even to reach for his phaser after the following action... he punches the hell out of Lore across the face! Lore's face turns to the side and looks at that side of the cab.

Mistake #3: After punching the hell out of Lore's face, and as Lore looks at the side panel, Worf wasted a perfectly-solid opportunity to recover the phaser and blast the hell out of Lore! But no... this is the mistake that costs him BIG TIME! Because Lore then punches the hell out of Worf's torso! Worf's knees buckle and he lets out a long howl of defeat and pain as he writhes in pain. I want to talk a bit more about this some more but i'll get back to this in a bit.

At the slightest hint of recovery or an attempt to recover is when Lore backhands a pain-rocked Worf across the face, sending him out of commission, cleaning his clock, and knocking him down for the count. LOL Moral of the story: if an android challenges you to a fight, DO NOT take him/her on or you're screwed! Just ask Worf who learned this lesson the hard way. Hilariously sad how Lore easily managed to take a Klingon down with just two hits.

Unfortunately, my Netflix is out and it'll be months before H&I will air "Datalore" again but someone did post this scene on YouTube but with Lore's "Are you prepared for the kind of death you've earned, little man?" line dubbed over the originally-silenced "Now show me your warrior fierceness," then with Worf saying no in response. Anyway, i keep watching that clip over and over to try and get a good look at where exactly Lore punched him the first time. It looks like Worf took the hit to the abdominal aorta... just below the chest cavity... but i can't 100% place it there as the bottom frame almost cuts it off there.

The film crew, as they were shooting that scene, probably did it that way because otherwise they would've had to have Brent Spiner actually punch Michael Dorn in the gut or it will look phony and they didn't want that and i understand that.

I actually took a punch or two to the abdominal aorta once and not only is it extremely painful but the pain lingers! So unfortunately, i know from experience how easily a hit to that area can easily take someone down and fast. But on a lighter note, I get a good laugh out of that long howl Worf bellows when he's punched. I love it! I never get tired of hearing it. In a way i feel for Worf but that is a funny fight scene. That scene is a guilty pleasure for me!

1. Lore punching Worf is never funny.
2. While actually In a fight it isn't always easy to see the "best" action.
3.bad stuff happening to Worf is never funny.

The real mistake of "Datalore" was that GODAWUL amateur writer's hour line about beaming a large tree into space and destroying it to prove their might.

The whole Worf and Lore encounter pales in comparison.

Klingons can't walk away from a challenge. I compare this example to that dumba$$ Klingon who came aboard & challenged Data to an arm wrestling match, that lasted a tenth of a second lol. That's a pretty fatal flaw. If you CAN'T walk away from a challenge, then you are already at a disadvantage. Just ask Marty McFly lol

lol, but still better than any episode featuring Vic Fontaine right? :)

I do agree so much @Vger23 there was so much here to cringe at, and Data's evil twin concept feels like it's borrowed from a bad soap opera. I do feel it lay so much important work for later development of Data's character that I really do feel I can just let it slide by, but oh certain I don't enjoy watching it. :)

I've heard of a trope called "He Beat of Worf" where shows or movies will display just how tough a new villain is by having him or her beat up the heroes' tough person early to shock us. Was this like the first example in Next Generation of this happening to poor Worf? Oh he suffered such indignity so many times they even had to name the humiliation after him, lol.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's bad, it's just deeply flawed. And it doesn't help that it took place early on where it looked cheaper, wasn't directed as well, and the score is synth heavy.

To say it's one of the worst, places it with such pieces of garbage like "Code of Honor", "The Naked Now", "The Outrageous Okona", and polished turds like "Sub Rosa" and "The Chase".

Hey! I feel The Chase was such a wonderful episode, and The Outrageous Okona is classic! I do feel like I'm alone in the whole world by actually liking Sub Rosa?

Well, I can't abide Sub Rosa and I think The Chase is okay (I mean c'mon when else can someone get away with calling Picard a dilettante) but I do really enjoy Okona. I always have. I find it amusing. (and it also has the actor that was in that Seinfeld episode where George double dips the chip)

As far as Worf is concerned, we do see him get his ass kicked in season one. Let's not forget Admiral Quinn wiping the floor with him in Conspiracy. And then in season three, Roga Danar puts a pretty good hurtin' on Worfy.

hmm, new thread idea? How many times did Worf get his Klingon butt kicked

Do you remember if dear Mr Worf and possessed Mr Data ever came to blows in Power Play?

Oh dear, I just don't understand the vitriol Sub Rosa receives, lol. I liked its ghost-story nature, I felt it was so creepy this being was following Beverly's family around for centuries haunting them and feeding off them. I mean, doesn't it make you wonder what if your fantasies became real, and he was making you feel so wonderful, but really he's some sort of vampire who's been moving from person to person in your family for so long? I don't know, I just liked it? It was nice to see a Beverly episode, she didn't get enough of them.

I don't recall. It's been a long time since I watched that episode. I do seem to remember a scene where Worf gets his wrist broken by someone. Was that in Power Play or Clues?

Clues, Deanna manhandled him!

Clues, Deanna manhandled him!
Ironic that he would enjoy Deanna manhandling him a few seasons later. :p

I enjoy Remember Me. I thought that was a much better showcase for her. Even the one about the Ferengi scientist and his sun shield is a better Beverly showcase.

 That's even worse than Tuvok's inability to prevent security breaches on Voyager

Sub Rosa=:barf:
Ghost: you need to have green eyes.
Beverly goes to the ship and changes her greenish blue eyes to a color that looks almost the same!
The shock the horror!!!!!
Picard: Beverly you changed your eye color.
Beverly: yes, blah blah blah blah something or another, at this point who cares about dialogue? Fan boys just want to see Bevetly fake having fake sex with thin air.

Beverly grew up on a planet inhabited by pig people and never mentioned it.

The episode did make me wish that we had met her grandmother. Now that little lady would have been interesting.

lol oh yes, it's totally not perfect, and it's not like it's one of my favorites, but I feel such a creepy vibe from Sub Rosa, so I enjoy it. I mean, to me I feel there are just so many really bad episodes, this one just feels harmless? I'd understand if people just weren't fond of it, but so many really hate it!

For me it's right there with "Masks" and the one where they have to get to New Veriform City. Which in the end I think wasn't that bad, I just found it annoying.
