Collectormania Milton Keynes!

I didnt see another post about this, so here it is.

Who went? I travelled the three hour journey with my mum and brothers in the hopes of meeting Leonard Nimoy. But that didnt happen. £25!! Rip off. How can I afford that? :(

But I did manage a quick chat with Ben Browder whilst we were browsing the free books stall! He seemed nice, but his "bodyguard" wasnt...

The only person I didnt manage a peek at was Rachel Luttrell, who I didnt see anywhere! Avery brooks seemed like a really nice guy, if only I had the money to meet him, it would be brilliant! I also felt sorry for John De Lancie, as he was Q, and amazing character, but had no Que. But I waved at him and got a Wave and a Smile back. Again, the problem was money, as being 16yrs old, that doesnt come around very often. I have Autographs from Marshall Lancaster and Dean Andrews, so Philip Glenisters would be a good addition. But guess what. No Money :( I did manage to get myself a nice Enterprise B model, Made by furuta. I never knew they were that big, otherwise I would have gotten them a long time ago.
I also have a picture of me with Gene Hunts Quattro! It even had Garibaldi biscuits on a plate on the rear spoiler! Inside were a Rubiks cube, Keely's white jacket, and some roses!

The main problem were those so called "bodyguards" They even tried to get in the way of someone trying to take a photo of Ben Browder just after i talked to him, Even Ben said it was okay. Meh

Was anyone here lucky enough to get any Photos or autographs?

Yeh, I went - the only day I could go was Friday, and Nimoy pulled out of Friday at the last minute - standard for Collectormania!!

Still, it was pretty fun, met Avery Brooks, John De Lancie, Andrew Robinson and Nathan Fillion in their official booths and Ben Browder and Tony Amendola on the way to the bathroom

Avery Brooks was an absolute legend, we chatted for some time about his work in theatre - he was one of my favourite Trek stars I've met - Andrew Robinson was very pleasant too. Nathan Fillion was nice, but rushed by a long queue - my friend managed to piss him off by asking him to write "The hammer is my penis" on his autograph
John De Lancie was the only complete waste of money, I think he said 5 words to me, answered me in monosyllables. Came across as quite a grumpy git, really.

The actual collectors' fair was fairly mediocre but then it was only Friday - was it any bigger on Sat/Sun? The venue seemed over large, tbh - I think they'll regret passing up the centre:MK's foot traffic.

The collectors fair was pretty packed, it was quite good, but typically overpriced! Best going to a car boot sale for the old trek stuff. I nearly got a Playmates voyager at a car boot sale, but when i came back with the £2.50 he wanted, it had gone :(

I was there on Friday; cold day. I planned my trip to meet Leonard Nimoy but as he wasn't there I made do with Avery Brooks!! Joking aside, the man is a legend, never lets me down and this is the third or fourth time I've met him. Met Nathan Fillion, Tony Amendola (SG & Dexter) and Marc McClure (Jimmy Olsen from Superman:The Movie) - really nice guys all.
Bought a few bits and bobs, nothing much. Had a good day though.
Got a photo with Marc McClure.

So they charge individually to meet guests or for autographs?

Yeah, they charge for autograph, between 10 and 25 quid depending on how big the star is (or more accurately how big they think they are) - there's no entry fee though, so if you don't go for autographs its a completely free event.

So the autograph fees go to pay for the event and not to the guests?

It always seems kind of rude to me to charge for autographs. "Oh, you like me? Pay up." :rommie:

When I'm famous, I'll make a much better celebrity.

I don't really mind - it turns out a lot cheaper than a paid-entry con, particualrly if you are selective about who you see - I'm not that worried about the random bit players from Star Wars that show up every time
The downside of course is you pay up but the celebrity in question could easily be rubbish to talk to. There's usually one or two at every event who are brilliant to chat with, and it's quite often not the big draws.

I went on sunday in the hopes of seeing Alice Krige, only to find when i asked if she was there that she had a call for work and had to fly back to the states on saturday. Was really pissed as i drove 2 1/2 hours there to see her. The least showmasters could have done was post on their forum on saturday night or early sunday morning that she wasnt going to be there. The organiser was too busy complaining on the forum about the complaints on the forum to give that a thought i guess.

I didnt get any autographs but i managed to sneak a photo of Leonard when he was signing. From a distance but at least that was something!
I did think that for Leonard Nimoy £25 was pretty good though considering Creation are charging almost £50 ($75) for Leonards auto at the Vegas convention this year!

I didn't have any problems with them but i have read a few horror stories on the showmasters forum about people being assaulted by Leonards security guards.

Other than Alice Krige not being there i had quite a nice time. The highlight of my day was when Leonard Nimoy was coming back from a break and walked right by me:hugegrin:
I actually managed to not spend too much either!

Quite pleased to see that Avery Brooks made such a great impression on you guys. I met him about 4 years ago at the Vegas con and he was really nice, and a great speaker as well. Glad to see he's doing a few cons these days as he by no means does them often.

Hey wow! Thanks for posting this!!!

Brings back memories of when I met him - I was SOOOO excited. I met alot of the actors at that con (including all the then-captains save Scott Bakula), but Avery Brooks, for me, was the main event of the entire con. And he most certainly did not disappoint. He was really very nice and quite pleased to be there. Very kind and humble.

For me, it really WAS like meeting the Emissary! That and meeting Peter Jurasik (Londo is my favorite B5 character) have been the two high points of my scifi nerdd...erm....'fandom' experiences. :p

Anyway, so glad you guys had a good experience meeting Mr. Brooks and that he was as decent a fellow as he was back then. That's awesome!

I've been visiting that forum the past two days, and thats the first I've heard of Alice's absence. Even not it's not that visible.

They really could do so much better, but obviously its the customers at fault.
