Castle - Season 7 discussion and spoilers

And just to be PC, I guess, they suspected the Middle Eastern guy (so they could mention ISIS, I guess), but he turned out to be innocent.

This may come as quite a surprise to you friend but not all people from the Middle East are evil terrorists.

That's good. I'm sure they could have made it "work" without her, but it would have either been really awkward or a huge leap in credulity.

^Well, this show gave up trying to be credible a good while ago, so that probably would've fit right in.

I'm reminded of how McMillan and Wife became McMillan in its final season when Susan Saint James left due to a contract dispute. Her character was killed in a plane crash between seasons. And the show didn't work nearly as well without her.

So the defining moment of young Castle's life was a variation on the plot of Stand By Me/The Body? Young boy sees a dead body and is inspired to become mystery writer as a result.

ETA: And before anyone says anything, that's just a stray observation. I'm not accusing them of ripping it off or anything, because it's a vague idea. Nor would there be anything wrong if they were inspired by that. I just found it amusing.

Uhm.. wasn't that a Castle teasing Beckett back in season 2 or 3 about why he became a mystery writer?

Would that mean he didn't lie back then?

Since i missed half of the current season on purpose can anyone recommend watching it to close the gap or is it not worth the time investment?

Did they ever bother to explain why Castle was kidnapped? I haven't watched the show in months but didn't hear anything about that being wrapped up. Now that lame ass story lien will continue on for a third show runner.

^ Yes, they explained it, badly, with a stupid al Qaeda plot, but there are clearly some mysterious elements left to it, like his father possibly being involved through the CIA.

I don't think they've mentioned this before. Kate said Castle had never told her this story before, and he even had almost convinced himself the killer he encountered as a child might not have been real until the current identical case proved that he really had encountered it.

It's been pretty mediocre. I wouldn't bother.

I don't think they've mentioned this before.

There was an older episode where he said that while in high school he paid some kid to write a paper for him. He felt so bad about that, that he learned everything he could about writing... or something to that effect.
Both could still work, and he could have just written 'The Body In The Woods' very poorly.

I seem to recall Castle mentioning the Woods in passing somewhere in the middle seasons. I think it was in a 3XK episode. However, he referenced the incident in the woods as the reason he became obsessed with the macabre and not so much writing in and of itself--which was instead the bit about his schoolmate, yes.

Aaaand that wasn't my point at all. But thanks for continuing the kneejerk PCness.

Ha.. found it!

Incidentally i became a bit show nostalgic as i was browsing the first 2 seasons for this tidbit.. Castle was such an amazing show in its first 4 seasons (and half of season 5). By the third season i was starting to annoy my friends with the praise

Sad to see a show overstay its welcome and run out of steam.

I want more Molly!

That was one of the biggest mistakes with the more recent seasons.. doing away with Castle's family.

That whole dynamic with the overachieving daughter and the carefree mother is what defined Castle to a great degree and i loved the family scenes. Nowadays it's some relationshippy stuff with Beckett in the beginning and end of the episode which is nice once in a while but not always.

I remember the times when Beckett got to interact with Castle's family and it was always so nice, funny and good for Beckett to be part of something bigger than being all by herself.

Well.. not to beat a dead horse but this show really needs to find a graceful exit. It remains to be seen what's stronger.. artistic integrity or money (it's Hollywood so the latter wins more often).

alexis went to an out-of-state school IIRC, though she wanted to pick one closer, so she can't be around all the time...
And she and Martha saw he was in capable hands with Beckett so they felt they could do their own thing instead of worrying about Richard...
Positive character development...

Yeah, just like almost every tv show...

That's too bad. She was underutilized as a character, but I liked her. Maybe this will be Beckett's big break since she passed the Captain's exam.
