Cast your fantasy Decker!

Stephen Collins, well, the less said about him the better.... so, in the context of the late 70's who would you cast as Will Decker? I'm picturing a young 25 year oldish Denzel Washington right now, he was just starting his career by then. He would surely bring something extra to the role!

Write what you have in mind!

Kirk would definitely be in a better mood in that film
I can just see her in that stern by the book role, and she probably does pissed off at Kirk pretty well when he takes away her command.

putting her in a relationship with Ilia might be pushing things for the seventies, but who cares, right?

Ed Harris (before he lost his hair) was just starting acting on TV shows around the time.

Is there any mention of who else was considered for the role both for Phase II and TMP? The Making of ST--TMP doesn't list anyone; how about Return to Tomorrow and other sources?

His performance as Decker was to be honest spot on, this can be said about him. More than a few talented actors have shitty personaities, and histories of criminal activity.

As a possible replacement, I nominate Micheal Ironsides. He would have been in his late twenties during production and easily could have played a thirties something newly promoted captain.

I actually did recast Decker in my comic with Glenn Turman not just because Collins is a terrible person, but because he’s incredibly bland and bad at acting. The guy smiles no matter what emotion he’s supposed to be feeling. Turman was actually up,for the role of Han Solo. That would have been a really interesting recast as well.

Robert Blake, straight out of Baretta, as an older, gruffer Will Decker.

The young 20-year-old stand-up Kevin Spacey Fowler, for a more comical take.

New Mexico martial artist and dojo owner Steven Seagal also had acting aspirations at the time, and is about the right age to play Decker in a more active, realistic fighting role.

For an African-American, however, you could do no better than casting the star of the films The Towering Inferno and The Cassandra Crossing, fresh off his role as an astronaut in Capricorn One. He is probably the most realistic choice for Will Decker.

At least he isn't a sexual predator, just a double murderer.
but because he’s incredibly bland and bad at acting.
He was great as the lead in Seventh Heaven (eleven seasons), and (to repeat) he absolutely nailed the role of Decker.
