Who would you cast in your fanfics to play your original characters? (Choosing actors who could have played them if your fanfics were episodes at the time the show or movie was being made)

I'm asking even though I don't know the answer to my own question when it comes to my 2 TOS episode fics. (Feel free to suggest someone.)

Definitely a fun exercise. I often use visualization when writing, but most of them are some A.I.-esq mental conglomerate.

While I would like to and will participate in this exercise, I don't want to limit or pigeon-hole my thinking about my characters by linking their personas too strongly with someone else's characterizations.

I don't have a good knowledge of actors' names, but I'll see what I can come up with:

I really don't have particular actors in mind for most of my characters in The Star Beagle Adventures, but here are four. One of the difficult things about this sort of dream casting is aligning ages.

At 58, Tamlyn Tomita is way too young for Commodore Yui Song, who is 83. She would have to be considerably aged up for Commodore Yui Song. But she definitely has the gravitas for the role. An elderly Chinese woman who is accustomed to power. She can be kind. She can also, occasionally, hand down an epic dressing down. She has a long fuse, but a nasty temper when it finally goes off.

At 42, Eddie Redmayne isn't too old for Captain Ronald Howard,XIV ("Skip"). Skip Howard is 34, the youngest captain currently in Star Fleet. Brilliant, flamboyant and sensitive at the same time. He always wears eyeshadow and fingernail polish and is a little foppish - he has a tendency to prance a little. A scion of a family that produced four Star Fleet admirals over the past 3 centuries, Skip Howard manages to seem humble, but that studied humility masks a rather dangerous arrogance that often accompanies genius.

At 41, Kate Mara is about a decade too young for the 51-year-old Captain Rhonda Carter. Carter is tiny and was nicknamed the "Teacup Tiger" while at academy for her combination of diminutive size and explosive temper. In hand-to-hand combat, with a phaser or at the helm of a starship, Rhonda Carter is the deadliest fighter anyone in Star Fleet has ever seen. She seems to have a sense of her opponent's weakness and ruthlessly takes advantage of it with blinding speed and accuracy. She is 5'0" and 100 pounds of pure rocket fuel.

At 62, Clark Gregg is a decade too old for the 51-year-old Lieutenant Commander Gregg Clark. I don't really have to describe Gregg Clark. He is Clark Gregg. Backward and forward.

Bear in mind, three to four hundred years in the future, medicine, diet, genetic cultivation, and cosmetic therapies will all be much more advanced. What an 83 year old Asian woman will look like then, may well appear to be a 58 year old woman to us.

I've tried a few A.I. character generators and none of them are satisfactory. This one came the closest with the best looking outfit and actually made Skyvik's skin green. I don't know why there are stripes or tattoos on his face and every one of the generators gives the characters such intense expressions.

Art Santayana I picture as a sort of bold chicken Hans Solo rogue but with both a bigger heart and cowardly streak. He's exceptionally good looking, even Vulcan women find him attractive. Therefore, he should be played by Jesús Castro

T'Pia is a mature vulcan woman with a strong mothering streak. She was the lead engineer who took responsibility for the welfare of her engineering team. She especially looks out for the younger members of her team, like Charley and T'Perl. I picture her with a strong, mature face, medium height and classic Vulcan features. T'Pia is a quiet fighter.
She's too big a star for the role, but Linda Hamilton would be a good archetype for this role. The mature contemporary vision on the left who can transform into the veteran warrior on the right, if need be.

Chang Sanfeng (Charley):
Young, confident, filled with the wisdom of his upbringing in a Shaolin temple, but not yet mature enough to embrace the calm peace of the wise. Charley can be brazen and a little rash. I would pick Ran Jialun

T'Perl is young and brash and smart and independent. She is also an unusually emotional Vulcan "hiding" among mainstream Vulcans who have completed the Kolinahr ritual. Not having gone through the Kolinahr ritual because her family was homeless and her parents died before she was enrolled in school, T'Perl has learned to suppress and control her emotions through her own will power, but her emotions have not been purged. I picture her something like
Paulina Alexis from Reservation Dogs.
