Can I use my dishwasher as a clothes washer?

I mean, on principle, they're pretty much the same thing.

Water and soap being splashed around to wash something. Granted my clothes won't be submerged in soapy water as they would be in a clothes washer, but I don't think that's critical to the washing of clothes. They'd still get soaked with soapy water and then rinsed. Seems to me it would work.

Wouldn't clothes get wrapped around the central aggitator thing and cause it to burn up and fail?

I put baseball caps in the dishwasher though. But that's different.

Laundry detergent will sud. When that happens, the dishwasher pump will be unable to circulate the water/soap mixture. You'll have to wait for the suds to dissipate before draining.

Don't ask me how I know this.

The solution seems simple.

Wash my clothes with Cascade.

If it's good enough for my pots and pans why not my underwear?

Are dishwashers cheaper than clothes washers? Maybe they've been fucking us all this time. Those sons of bitches!

Not sure. They do come standard in apartments, unlike clothes washers. I do not feel like renting a washer from my apartment complex -long term expense out weighs the cost of buying my own set, I dislike using the "public" ones in the 'mat in the complex, I'd rather not buy a set, and there may be times I don't like going all the way to the parents' to do laundry.

We used to wash our aprons and hats in the dishwasher at Pizza Hut. Of course it didn't have the rotating armature, just high pressure, high temp jets. Beats coming home stinking of cheese and sauce.

Heh...I bet nowadays you could get in HUGE trouble with that. See the recent stories of people getting fired for bathing in the big sink in fast-food restaurants...

The agitation is an important part of a washing machine. A dishwasher will lack that.

I don't see how it's all that important.

Again, I think hot, soapy, water would be enough to remove the light soil and stink off of clothes. I mean it may not get spots and stains, but unless your clothes look like you roll in human waste how much "agitation" do clothes need?

It works out dirt thats trapped in the fibers. It's why when you have a bath you don't just spray yourself with soap, get in, and then get out. That's get some of the dirt and oil off you, but you'd still be dirty.

once, in college, I didn't have any laundry detergent, it was 3am and I had NO clothes to wear and the finals at 8am. I used shampoo. you have no idea how bad it got. the dorm monitor had to close the entire floor for half a day to clean that mess up.

everything has a purpose.

Why don't you just try it for awhile and see it goes? If the ladies stop talking to you, you'll know it doesn't work.

Whoa. I HAVE to know what happened!

Man, it's amazing the stuff people do in college. I washed my hair in the dorm water fountain once. That is NOT easy, let me tell you. But that, at least, was non-destructive.

Someone else in my dorm actually flooded their bathtub on the third floor...it ran down to us on the second floor and flooded OUR bathroom, and created a nice little waterfall on the first floor as well. I have NO idea how anybody could be that stupid.
