And Berman is...um....Paramount security? Al Vinci's personal assistant?

Berman is rich.

No other series has reverted to that blatant display of sexuality.

You REALLY NEED to watch TOS. (Seriously) It makes Enterprise look downright puritanical.

Re: Brannon Braga found that taking the heat for Star Trek..

Yeah, I'll never get why people were so PO'ed with Leeta and Seven, but were okay with TOS' sexy ladies and their outfits.

Re: Brannon Braga found that taking the heat for Star Trek..

So which of those ladies in TOS were rubbing oil and giving massages every other episode?

Brannon gets too much grief from people.

Not at all. He doesn't get enough.

Year of Hell remembered events in Before and After.

While forgetting the most important ones, like Kes specifically detailing the Krenim capabilities.

Worthless and weak. Might as well be Alias or Lost.

There's a big difference between the TOS ladies who wore a lot of bright colours and precariously draped material to be suggestive and Seven/T'Pol and their basically anatomically correct catsuits, decon gel rubbing, and conversations with Kim about 'engaging in intercourse'.

That was explained within YoH: The entire timeline where Kes experienced YoH was erased by one of Annorax's temporal incursions, I thought that was clear when we saw the scene of Seven getting the variance of the chrono-warhead which was exactly the same as the scene of Kes getting the variance from "Before and After".

So ONE single conversation in ONE episode out of like 180, and maybe 3-5 decon gel massages make them sex fiends for life?

Oh please, he just wanted the Occupation story done in 6 episodes, not the whole war. Moore doesn't know what he's talking about.

Bow before me young padawan, for I am your master now.

* "Ira Steven Behr and Ronald D. Moore were the writers most involved with the creation and development of the Dominion War. Rick Berman wanted the war to be over within three or four episodes at the most. Behr and Moore knew the series would never be able to wrap up the war in that many episodes. Berman would also criticize the "depressing" and "violent" stories. Moore would later say "It's a fuckin' war! What do you mean it's too violent?!" "

Well allow me to ask this: Why are Trek fans so afraid of sexuality?

Ask Braga. Roddenberry loved women and loved sex and you could tell. Braga is scared to death of them. Hence the creation of The Fembot and Spock of Nine. Roddenberry's sexuality was mature and adult. Braga's is immature and juvenile. The mini-skirts were a sign of sexual empowerment. The cat-suit is a sign of schovenism. Robbenberry's was more the seductive James Bondesque "Chao, dahling." Braga's is more along the lines of Animal House or Revenge of the Nerds "Luk at teh beg boooobiezz!!" Braga is about as seductive a writer as Larry The Cable Guy.

...You do know that the "Barbie of Borg" thing wasn't his idea, and his actual idea would've been a helluva lot better, right?

I would agree if both Seven of Nine & T'Pol weren't also smarter and more self confident that many of the their male counter parts. Seven & T'Pol were more than just great bodies, they were smart formidable women. Not seeing a woman beyond her physical form is also sexest.

Unlike Roddenberry, Braga didn't create women characters that were subservant to their men. Uhura, Chapel, Rand, Crusher & Troi all were in career positions that were "care giver" roles, roles that made then answer to men. Janeway, Be'lanna, Seven & T'Pol were women of power and in commanded positions. Janeway, Seven & Be'lanna answered to no man, weren't going to and didn't need too. Much of the advice T'Pol gave Archer were the building blocks to what now call the Prime Directive. She also possesed stronger morals than her captain too. Roddenberry loved woman and sex just as long as the women were docile to their men as sex objects and not as complete equals.

Roddenberrys women in Trek were nothing but puppets, Behr & Braga made women equals.

And then ruined it by assuming we did not want to see them as equals, we want to see them naked. Sexuality is not the problem. The problem is the way in which it is presented. THe first time I saw the decon scene it came across as a poor way to show skin and nothing more. Even the actors felt that way.

Good scene: Hoshi sliding out of a vent in the ceiling and getting her top caught, causing it to be pulled off. It was humorous, innocent, and realistic.

Bad scene: T'Pol telling Tucker to remove his shirt so she can massage his feet.

But the common complaint about Seven or T'Pol is what they wear, very few here ever see the more possitive points behind the characters such as their brains. So in essance, people don't wanna see them as equals by just focusing on their phyical traits.

We admire Kirk for treating women like sex objects but take issue with Seven for looking like one? :wtf:

Re: Brannon Braga found that taking the heat for Star Trek..

My complaint is not what T'Pol wears, it is some of the sceens she has to do.

What was his idea?

BTW, do you know that in an August 2001 issue of TV Guide, when asked if Jolene Blalock was going to wear a catsuit-type or form fitting outfit, he said no. I know this thread is an attempt to play revisionist history and is trying to exonerate the Beebs to some extent, but these guys knew what they were doing.

Re: Brannon Braga found that taking the heat for Star Trek..

Brannon originally was going to have the new Borg member be male but then Rick Berman wanted a female. Brannon wanted Seven to remain heavily Borgified and over the course of the season she would lose more of the implants but UPN didn't want to hide Jeri's beauty under all that so they got her mostly unBorgified and in the biosuit.

I read that issue but I didn't see T'Pol's outfit being a catsuit any moreso than Troi's lavender/maroon outfits or Kira's uniform or Jadzia's form-fitting Season Five FC uniform etc.
