Not to piss on your parade, but this is old news, brother.

I pre-ordered my set two weeks ago. Got it for the amazingly low price of $80. :)

this is old news
Most of us know that when any news comes to Trekmovie.com we all know about it here on trekbbs.
There was not a thread for this Blu-ray so I wanted to start one for posting all the links to the reviews and people's comments.
I did find any reviews yet for it.

Just picked up this box-set and TOS season 1 on blu-ray today. I was rather suprised, as I hadn't been watching the release schedule here too closely and did not expect to see them this early here in oz. Well ok, let's just say I nearly fell over in the store in complete fangasm.

Only watched TMP so far. I've given my opinion of that in the TMP blu-ray thread above. It looks fantastic, and has some great stuff not in the DE, but I still prefer several of the new SFX shots from the DE as I think they do actually improve on the originals.

Oh and the V'ger briefing thingy in the extras is rubbish. It's corny, dumb and that uniform looks bad.

Apparently there is one on each disk. The one on the TWOK disk is a 'briefing' on Ceti Alpha VI. A cute looking Brit or possible Aussie brunette in a bad uniform (sort of a TNG-era jumpsuit with a TWOK-style collar flap thingie) stands in a set supposed to represent a room in Starfleet Academy San Francisco before a LCARS briefing display and provides some information relating to each movie. The V'ger one had background on the Voyager probe and some of the wild speculation that it may have encountered the Borg. It's pretty bad, imo.

Sounds like that comes courtesy of the Reeves-Stevens' influence on these disks. They wrote the Shatner novel around the borg vger thing that evolved from that GR semi wisecrack.

I gotta say. I really enjoyed Star Trek III this time around. Usually I see it as the poorer cousin to the first 2 films, but this time the emotional impacts in the film resonated a lot more with me than did TWOK. I guess it's one of those things where as you get older you tend to re-evaluate the things which you judged earlier in your youth.

It also looked and sounded amazing, as did the first two, but because there are more SFX shots in TSFS than with TWOK it really looks stunning, I think.

I'm not really looking forward to STIV though. It's been something I've never really liked. In fact the only thing worse for me is TFF. Still, I'll try and approach it with an open mind when I watch it tomorrow night.

Just out of curiousity, are the versions of the first two films the previously released director's cuts ?

even numbered films on Blu-ray sale

If you didn't get the collection and only want 1 or 2 of the films on Blu-ray until the special editions come out with better picture quality in a few years.

Best Buy is currently running a sale the four individual Star Trek Blu-ray releases (the ‘even numbered’ films), Star Trek II, IV, VI and First Contact. Each is discounted 50% to $9.99.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

Star Trek: First Contact

My partner just brought me all of the ST films on DVD for Xmas for $9.99 each from K-Mart. These are the newer release ones with commentaries by people like Ron Moore and others - not the Nimoy/Bennett/Meyer comms.

I only have burnt copies of the original release so this is the first time I will actually OWN the ST films on DVD!

when will the HD double dip happen?

Will Paramount capitalize on the 30th Anniversary of any TOS film for the double dip HD (Blu-ray) of a proper remaster?
[new 4k telecine, dustbust, and very light-handed DNR for all the films]
30th Anniversary of these movies:
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) - 2012 yeah right. (STIITWOK was remastered properly already though we may see even less DNR on a remaster...)
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) - 2014
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) - 2016
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) - 2019 - Yeah right....
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) - 2021

I'm guessing around 2016. Any thoughts on Paramount's HD (Blu-ray) double dip?

What about 3d? That seems like an obvious reason for another remaster.

Re: when will the HD double dip happen?

I don't think they'll do 3D conversions for a while unless they plan on re-releasing the film theatrically (like Titanic and Star Wars). There isn't enough money in the format otherwise -- at least right now.

A proper remastering of all the films would be nice though.

Re: when will the HD double dip happen?

I think you can get it in the UK. I'm not sure if those Blu-Rays are region free, though.
