Spoilers Black Lightning - Season 2

I think the show benefits greatly from the shorter series length.
It allows for better story focus and less filler.

I felt this season was very unfocused and uneven in juggling all its story threads. Like, what the hell is the whole Grace Choi thing about? Why did it take until the last few episodes for Lala to suddenly show up again? And the thread about the school and Principal Lowry has unfolded very erratically, being absent for long stretches and then popping back up briefly. Structurally, this season has been a total mess compared to season 1.

^ I get the sense sometimes of a show with more good ideas than it has time for. I doubt a longer season would feel padded at all.

I do not believe it needs a longer season; every major plot introduced in the pilot was steadily building season by season, with its peaks happening for each character at the right time. Just to focus on Jennifer alone, she has overcome her earlier issues with not wanting her powers, then questioning what she should do with it, her phase of wanting revenge against Tobias, and now she's joined the family business, so to speak. That took time and paralleled the growing threat of the ASA not only in Jefferson's life, but hers as well, now that we know about Odell's grave robbing. Nothing happens "just because" as on other superhero shows (and dropped as if it never happened at all), and every actually character has a purpose of their own, though tied to the unified main stories.

Finally checked out the final two episodes of Season 2. This season got away from me. I was hooked into Season 1, but struggled this season, and I skipped a good deal of it. I am glad I saw the finale though because it reminded me of just how good this show can be. The cast, character work, and the musical choices were all good. My biggest quibble is that I wish the Masters of Disaster had costumes. Also, I'm not a fan of where they appear to be going with Grace (I wish she was an Amazon).

But overall, I thought it was a good debut for Jennifer as Thunder (and I like her suit the best on the show), and I also liked what the tease for Season 3 appears to be about. Here's hoping Baron Bedlam will be showing up at some point. (Also, when Jennifer mentioned 'static' in terms of how her powers might affect her hair, I couldn't help but hope that the Static will be showing up at some point. I thought he would be a good love interest for her, but with the reemergence of Khalil, I don't see that happening).

I'm glad they've put Tobias on ice, without killing him. He was pretty good-as he usually is-in the finale, and I wouldn't want them to kill him off, at least not yet. However, I would like to see the family take on other villains as well, and bring Tobias back at some point down the road.

Excited for the bew season...and being added to the Crisis. I still say BL can be part of Earth 1...just a part of the country superpowered beings don't go to.

Maybe. Maybe Not.

People tend to forget that regardless of the perception that social media has made our world smaller and more interconnected, it’s true at all. Inside individual states there are multiple subcultures that have no real knowledge of the other. Urban vs rural cultures. East Coast vs West Coast. I could go on and on.

There is so much that is happening in our real world at the same time. That most people are either completely oblivious too or intentionally ignoring. Even if it’s in accessible on social media. Which does not even account for the underbellies of our culture that nobody talks about at all.

So conceivably I can see Freeland existing on Earth 1. Just because the casts of Arrow and The Flash have never mentioned it? Their tunnel vision is so narrow. It’s hard to imagine real people living in Star or Central City. They focus so much on what is happening to them and their yearly Big Bad. The rest of the United States is such a vague unknown. Look how long before Gotham City was mentioned at all.

Not to say they will be going in that direction, but I would be ok with it if it happens.

It's interesting that super heroes and villains tend to congregate in the Northeast. With one or two outliers in the Midwest and West Coast. Of course that’s where the comic book publishers were, too.

Bill Duke's character is antoher good villain.... I think Tobias Whale was great....but I would've liked to save him for much later, and have a season that is NOT Whale focused.

But also what happened between the season finale and this trailer? Seems like a 180 from the set-up

Oh, and is this happening during summer break? If not, Jefferson is gonna be fired from being a teacher! ANd with that big beard, several weeks, if not months have gone by. KInda shows BL's one weakness -- a crazy timeline that doesn't make much sense (at least in terms of fitting Jefferson's life as a teacher with his Superhero adventures)

Whale has to play some role. Considering what he did to Jefferson's father, this is a conflict that will not end until...it ends, and you know what that probably means, since Whale is absolutely unrelenting in his plotting.

Odell has the pull to provide a ready excuse to the school about Jefferson's absence (it could be anything--sudden family crisis, personal business, etc.), so he will not raise alarms about being "missing".

It looks like this new season will be very different from the first two. I don't mind though, it looks great.
