Bill Nighy to appear in Harry Potter

Bill Nighy has an announcement. "I don't think I'm allowed to say it but I'm going to be in the next Harry Potter film," he tells us. "I won't say which character, but he's a goodie. I just got the gig." If you don't mind us saying, it's about time, Bill. The rangy actor has been dropping hints for aeons, once complaining that he was "the only British actor who hasn't been in Harry Potter". But has he read the books? "Not yet, but I will!" he says. "It's rather like being in a Shakespeare that way, you know?" Mm.

Loved his performance in Love Actually.

I would guess he's playing Luna's dad.

The Leaky Cauldron has claimed that Nighy will play Rufus Scrimgeour. Rhys Ifans will play Luna's dad. None of this is officially confirmed, but I doubt The Leaky Cauldron would report it if they weren't sure.

The director said he was lobbying to put Bill Nighy (who he worked with before) in as Scrimgeour in #6, so I fully expect that's who he's playing for #7.

Scrimgeour is going to be in the last film, but not the upcoming one. But my bet is Luna's dad, from reading the books I think he would be a perfect cast for that role.

One of my favorite actors. I especially love the few times he gets to play the lead (Girl in the Cafe, Gideon's Daughter). I still think he should have gotten an Oscar nomination for Love, Actually.

Glad he's finally getting to appear in a Harry Potter film. I might just have to go see that one.

You lot haven't seen Bill Nighy until you've seen him in 'Still Crazy'. Anyone who's ever had anything to do with music, especially rock bands will find it very apt.
As for everyone else...well it has the bloke who plays the rat in Harry Potter as the drummer....and Billy Connolly.
