Best Trek Fan Films

My Fellow Trek Fans!

I have recently become acquainted with the world of Star Trek fan films & find myself enjoying them more then I expected. I've seen the New Voyages episode "The World Enough and Time" as well as parts of Hidden Frontier. Since I am a newcomer to this entire genre, I am rather ignorant as to what is good, or of there is other material out there worth checking out. Could anybody give me some pointers? What to you think are the best Star Trek fan films?

Thanks!

Most of the stuff I've seen has been at least decent. It really depends on what you're looking for.

Starship Farragut has a couple of episodes out which are pretty good. The two Hidden Frontier spinoffs, Odyssey and Helena Chronicles, have two and one episodes respectively. USS Intrepid is shaping up pretty well.

There's also Of Gods And Men. I can't give you an opinion on that because I haven't been able to stream it smoothly, and thus haven't watched it yet.

The New Voyages stuff is pretty solid so is Exeter, Of Gods and Men part 1 seemed pretty weak seeming it was coming from proffesional actors

I've been a fan of the Hidden frontier series for quite some time, and would have to say that Odyssey, created by the same people as hidden frontier, is a very good show, and very high quality.

Of the numerous Trek fan films and animated features I've seen in whole and in part, two (and only two) have held my attention via competent acting, solid production values and coherent script: Star Trek: Exeter's "The Tressaurian Intersection" and Star Trek: New Voyages' "World Enough and Time."

Odyssey and Helena Chronicles has blown me away completely compared with some of the earlier Hidden Frontier stuff. Quality of scripts and visual effects are well above half the utter bullshit on TV these days.

I'm not sure the production staff would be thrilled at being placed somewhere in the midst of the "utter bullshit." ;)

I do agree, though ... the group's material continues to improve.

Given the attacks on our professionalism that one particular person makes, and given that ALL of the B.S. on tv is professionally produced, I am personally content to be in the upper 50%. [grin]

I enjoyed Star Trek: The Section 31 Files (darkerprojects.com), particularly their third (?) episode, "The Sum of One's Memories."

And Lost Frontier is just awesome.

Hidden Frontier. It and its spinoffs, are the only fanfilm/series that I make exception for with my rule of "no fanfilms".

Hi, Blazerboy! Yep, still around, albeit intermittently.

Thanks for your very kind comments, SeerSGB.

I like a lot of the fan films out there, and I'm inordinately proud of our own work at the various Areakt Productions. Rather than stoke the fires over the live-action productions, I'll just say that Star Trek: Aurora is a beautifully done CGI animation, and shows that there's more to Federation space than just the Starfleet side of things.

Re: Best Trek Fan Films..USS Exter & Essex

USS Exeter & Essex because of the lesser addiction to CGI scenes. Beneficial natural lighting, locations and more belivable scene matters take them above average when compared to the others. Even though that they have the very same limitations of other fanpics, USS Exter & Essex have managed to battle and conquer limitations into 'outstanding' levels far and away from common Internet fanpics and their digital limitations foir the viewer.

Quoted for truth. The entire Section 31 series, when listened to in its entirety is quite spectacular.

I want to put a word in the Star Wreck. The special effects really overtook the non-serious nature of the movie and I think made it more than they had expected. Universal even took notice.

Still it's a lot of fun to see Star Trek vs B5. Great graphics with an awesome soundtrack.
