Best TOS novel?

Is there a general consensus regarding the best TOS novel ever written? I would like to try one or two, so any advice is appreciated.

I am very hard pressed to recall any TOS novels that have really impressed me - Dreadnought is OK.

I haven't read Wounded Sky or Final Reflection - I will rectify this.

The Final Reflection for me is not just the best TOS novel, it's the best Trek novel.

Other recommendations:

Wounded Sky
Spocks World
Doctor's Orders

There are quite a few more that are very good, but those are the absolute top level TOS books for me. I'd also recommend "Federation" - this straddles three time periods, one of which is TOS, and is also brilliant(includes some TNG as well).

It's been many years since I read them in college but I remember really enjoying Yesterday's Son and Time for Yesterday by A.C. Crispin.

Best TOS novel for my money, and the only one I've read more than once, is Prime Directive. That could've been a movie! (or three)

I heartily second these, especially "Spock's World" and "Doctor's Orders". I'm a big Diane Duane fan! :techman:

All of these are great choices.

My Enemy My Ally - also by Diane Duane - is my favorite, and it hasn't been mentioned yet.

Noticing a recurring theme here? You can't go wrong with Diane Duane. (Or the Reeves-Stevenses for that matter.)

The Lost Years is another one I have very fond memories of.

Diane Duane captures the "voice" of TOS better than anyone else has in print.

The Reeves-Stevenses stuff is pretty good, but they're stll no Diane Duane.

My personel favourite is Crucible McCoy -The Provenenace of Shadows, not only the best TOS-novel ever, it's my favourite out of all series.

I'll never forget the feeling of total immersion in "The Entropy Effect". After reading all the Bantam novels, this first Pocket original raised the bar several notches. "Yesterday's Son", "Uhura's Song", "Strangers from the Sky", "Prime Directive" and "Crucible: McCoy" are all very solid reads. "The Wounded Sky" if you prefer a bit techier.

Crucible: McCoy, Troublesome Minds and The Children of Kings are all solid TOS reads. :techman:

I can't judge TOS novels fairly yet but my boyfriend is almost donewith "Demons" by J.M. Dillard and loves it.

Get him a copy of the TNG novel "Possession" by J.M. Dillard, its a sequel to that book and a great TNG read to boot :)
