But it's starting with episode 2? Yes it is subbed.

Update connected Amazon to Crunchyroll and found the first EP.

I wonder what kind of deal was made for this to happen so quickly. It only came out in theaters in Japan a week ago.

Maybe they finally appreciate the fact that Yamato has a strong international following that should be leveraged. I’m honestly surprised that it’s taken them so long. It makes for good business sense and fills up their coffers quicker to make more productions.

Maybe Ep. 1 is a recap including elements of SBY 2205 (which AFAIK) hasn't been legally licensed in the U.S.

Scratch that:
^^^^
This article says Episodes 1 and 2 should be available in the U.S. and other select territories with others to follow as they release in Japan.

No word on if there will be an English Dub of it. I hope so as I liked their previous Dub work on SBY 2199 and 2202.

I imagine they are watching to see how many views it is getting to see it a dub is worth the cost.

IDK - If they've got the license, it shouldn't be any more expensive then the other stuff they do on a regular voices as they use (and still have) the same group of VOs they used for 2199 and 2202 - as I hear them on all the other Dubbed content I watch on Crunchyroll.

And to me - the weird thing is, CR isn't even doing much promotion that they have it (I had no clue until it was mentioned in this thread yesterday, checked and saw what many others did - Ep, 2 was the only one showing, so did a Google search saw the one small blurb from Crunchyroll (again not alot there and no real info other then: 'and other episodes when they are available....')

IF CR did spend a lot of money for the license - you'd think they'd promote it with a bit more fanfare because even today, SBY is one series the still well know outside of strictly Anime fan circles.

I get that perhaps it's because the Japanese release is following the SBY 2199 theatrical release cadence, (way back in 2012), with the first 2 eps released on 7/19/26 followed by 4 episodes to theatres each quarter over the next year (Eps. 3-6 are slated for November from what I've read); but yeah, if they have the license, they should continue with the English Dub process (IMO)...I mean hell, they did English Dubs for crap like Strike Witches which had a similar break between the various series releases from what I saw.:rommie::scream:

(I also hope them having 3199 means they got 2205 too, and will be putting that up at some point - hell, the events are referenced in the 3199 opening credits. ;))

The recent Yamatalk with the show's writers and directors confirms a few things.
One that the OG Dark Nebula Glaudez design will be used as a rival battleship for Yamato from Dezarium. That's a new thing. It will show up in Chapter Two and I think can be seen in the five second preview for Episode Three.
Two is that Space Battleship Arizona will be arriving by Chapter Three (next year), with it hinted at in Chapter Two. It is slated to be the new "cool" ship for the series and expected to be handled with respect due to it being mostly absent in Yamato III even though it was designed to be the other hero ship for that series.

I paused the video to see if I could make out what EDF ships are coming out of warp, and I can't discern any features.
Edit to add.
Having examined the Yamato 2205 media guide on the Cosmos DNA webpage, they appear to be Bolar Federation ships.

Yes, for some reason the Bolar press into the Sol System and the Dezarium fight them. Why? I don't know...but it looks fun. Having the Andromeda-class Alpharatz fire her wave motion guns at something will also be pretty cool. Plus, Yamato has wave motion cartridges confirmed. (That Gorba is so screwed.)

More SBY related in general, but still somewhat SBY3199 related:

Space Battleship Yamato premiered on Japanese TV on October 6, 1974 - 50 years ago:
