Bad Luck With Cars

I've owned 2 Peugeot 206's and both have gone belly up all thanks to the ECU units. My car I have now is a 2006 reg 206 and the entire dashboard is lit up with warning lights and bleeping telling me to stop and to top it all off the speedo went last friday and it will cost me in the region of £2000+ to get everything fixed therefore I decided to sell it and will be selling it tomorrow but i've only managed to get £3000 for it when it's worth more in the region of £5500 when with no problems.

Why are Peugeot still going? why have they not been shut down? read on the internet and the amount of problems Peugeot owners have with their cars ECU or coil pack units is well past the level of ridiculous. When I got this 206 I thought the odds of another ECU unit problem happening to me would be small and yet clearly I was wrong but it's not just the ECU unit that's the problem on this car, the list goes on. :brickwall:

My suggestion to you people is NEVER buy a Peugeot and avoid newer cars altogether, go for cars in the 10+ year range, it's cheaper to replace the break pads or exhaust pipe than paying for a new ECU unit.

Am I the only person who has bad luck with cars?

and before anyone says anything, my car warranty isn't valid, is wasn't valid when I got the car because the previous owner screwed THAT up.

And to think I opened this post up expecting to see some evil scheme you'd hatched to make a few quid.

I am rather disappointed. ;)

The French have never been known for their automaking, so I hardly find this surprising.

Perhaps you bad luck has something to do with the fact that, finding your car to be a lemon, you replaced it with the EXACT SAME car.

Isn't doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results one definition of insanity?

I've never owned (or even driven) a Peugeot, but my boss had endless problems with his 406 (which was a 51 plate).

Well when you're desperate for a car and your sister is offering you a car because she's lost her license and there's nothing wrong with it and she's been driving it no probs for over a year one tends to take it.

I drive a silver 2005 Peugeot 206 2.0 HDi Gentry, and it drives like a charm...
It's a leased company car, and up for sale in January (as it will be 4 years old). If you want to buy it let me know :p.

Bugatti Veyron. I don't know much about it's reliability, but I do know I'd give my left nut to have one parked in my garage.

"This car sucks! I want another car just like it!"

:guffaw:! Sorry that was really funny!
Well all I can say is that if you were desperate for a ride and your sis had something she wasn't using(happened to be the same model!) then i'd say go for it. But don't come back crying if that car turns out to be a lemon as well. ;)

I'd gotta agree with the don't buy a Peugot argument. And besides, how can anyone take a car seriously when it has that huge a grin at the front?

I've just bought a new car, it's a nice cheap little run around.

It's a red 1998 Vauxhall Corsa with a 1.0 litre engine. It'll get me to work and back I suppose. I'll probably keep it for 6 months till the Tax runs out and then i'll upgrade again. ;)

That reminds me of the VW Lupo with a 1.0 litre engine I used to drive when I jobbed as a courier for a pharmacy. I managed to make it consume 11 litres/100km (~21 mpg) with the first tank. Shortly thereafter, my boss had a word with me and afterwards mileage tended more toward 4 litres/100km (~55 mpg). :)

(That car went faster in 4th gear than in 5th. :D)
