Bad Boys 3 going into Development

It was really only a matter of time, right?
Script has been ordered placing Bad Boys 3 into development.
Sony Pictures is developing a third installment in the action-packed "Bad Boys" film series says The Hollywood Reporter.
Peter Craig ("The Town," "Cowboy Bebop") has been hired to pen the screenplay and the hope is to reunite all the key players - director Michael Bay, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
In the films, Smith and Lawrence played Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett who often got caught up in cases involving car chases and explosions.
Though no deals have been signed, all parties have expressed a willingness to return if a story can be hammered out. The cost of getting all the talents involved will be a hurdle.
The previous films opened in 1995 to $141 million worldwide and 2003 to $273 million worldwide. If a third film does come to fruition, then the film would likely hit in 2011 - meaning a consistent eight year gap between sequels.
Moving up the chain of sitting idle franchises that Hollywood has revisited this decade.
The 70's revival gave us ROCKY
The 80's has given INDY, DIE HARD and RAMBO.
Time the 90's was visited now with BAD BOYS.

Does anyone want Bad Boys 3?

Of course if it happens it'll be the next decade before BB:3 sees a movie screen. So if next decade becomes nostalgic for 90's fare what will the double ought '00 decade be revisiting? What action franchise(s) have really come out of this decade? National Treasure and Pirates also still simmering with installments forthcoming. What is sitting idle? Sahara? Mummy? It seems to me this decade has been about the comic book action movie vs ideas like Dirty Harry, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Indy and Bad Boys.

Bad Boys II was the most offensive piece of shit I've ever seen, aborted straight from the womb of Michael Bay's date rapist, Jeep driving, tween boy fantasy bullshit.

I weep for anyone who wants this.

I think you had a point until you made the claim that a BB3 would be for nostalgia for the 1990s. I think that is a little flawed.

BB2 was released this decade and 8 years after the first one. There is a precedent set for long breaks between installments for that series.

If BB2 was made a year or two after the first one, in the 90s, and there was nothing until now, then maybe you'd have a theory to make.

T'Baio, if Michael Bay plucked you out of obscurity and offered you a job at his production company in Hollywood, would you turn him down?

Oh, wait... what's that? Oh right, it's a heart attack. Going to die at the age of 21 due to excessive amounts of rage at uninteresting/terrible ideas.

I can with the utmost confidence say...yep.

I salute you for your integrity. It's easier to starve by sticking to one's principles.

Original BAD BOYS costar Tea Leoni hit menopause...that's how it's been between movies.

Martin Lawrence is now a member of AARP.

I wonder if Martin Lawrence (has been) will still get top billing over Will Smith (the current biggest movie star in the world). Also, since this is the third movie (which no one was contracted for ahead of time), will they have any money left to blow things up after they pay Bay, Smith and Lawrence?

I actually thought Bad Boys II was pretty decent until they somehow went from narcotics officers to special forces operatives and invaded Cuba. :wtf:

 I'm not starving now, so...
My statement is not about you personally, of course. It's a broad statement about people in general, such as college students, for example. They can't afford to be choosey today while they search for jobs.

ANYWAY... I hope that Michael Bay will put off directing Bad Boys 3 until he makes a small movie. A resumé full of blockbusters has obviously failed to convince a vocal minority that he knows anything about moviemaking. Maybe he should just make a low-budget movie about two old ladies playing bridge. The announcement alone of such a project should provide us with some good jokes, at least.

Michael Bay can't make a small movie. He was one of the directors that was brought in for Phone Booth. His first suggestion about the plot was to take the action outside of the phone booth.

We can abort babies, why can't we abort bad movies before they are born?!

Making movies isn't about good or bad... it's about $$$$. And as long as Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, etc., keep making money, the hack team behind them will get to keep making more.

I can't tell if you're joking or not.

^ I'm dead serious. I read an article somewhere that talked about all the directors they brought in to discuss Phone Booth like Mel Gibson and Michael Bay. And Jim Carrey was supposed to star.

Since we all know how Michael Bay loves to make all of his sequels bigger and bigger (look at Transformers 2 and Bad Boys 2) does this mean the world will get blown up in Bad Boys 3?

I own both on DVD, several years ago was at HMV and it was 3 DVD's for £20 but since they were in a single double pack edition, I got 4 movies for £20 so no need to strike me down with anger ;).

1 is probably better than two for story and 2 is better for action. I consider them nothing more than popcorn male flicks when you want to see some GTA gun action but I doubt I would go to the cinema to see a 3rd movie. Decent WW $$$'s there with the 1st being an 18 and 2nd a 15...Am sure the studio will want a PG-13 this time for a bigger target audience.
