Anyone else want to smack Mark Twain?

Watching Time's Arrow Part I and I'm about to start Part II, which I've not seen in a few years.

Twain's a pain in the ass, isn't he?

The episode had a kind of patchy start IMO, where it wasn't quite achieving the level of intrigue I was hoping for, but it got better as it went along.

Yes I want to slap Mark Twain as well.

However that has nothing to do with the episode

Though to be fair I DO like "Extracts from Adam's Diary"

Can I slap Ernest Hemingway or Ayn Rand instead?

That would actually be a nice use of the Holodeck, slapping authors or historical figures you don't like...

As an Oaklander, I'm much more incensed by the absurd and historically inaccurate portrayal of Oakland's own Jack London.

^ One of the best authors of Xeno-Fiction, along with Richard Adams (Watership Down)
Did not know that he was from Oakland, Ca.

Jack London was annoying too in this episode, now that you mention it.

Watership Down???

I saw the cartoon in the early 80s as a kid and it was not a pleasant experience...

Well it was a book before it was a movie (and later a considerably more lighthearted TV show). It, along with Jack London's "Call of the Wild" and "White Fang", is one of the best examples of "Xeno-Fiction", fiction that takes centers around non-human characters (in most cases animals) and attempts to anthropomorphize them as little as possible.
I agree that Watership Down is something I would expose a child to, although the author DID write it for his young daughters.

We read Watership Down in the 6th grade. We were old enough for the fascist, homicidal bunnyrabbits. I've read it twice since then.

I think you should really listen to riker in Future Imperfect this time.

Mark Twain's voice was the most irritating thing in all seven seasons of TNG. Just be glad the writers didn't go with their first idea which was to have Mark Twain replace Riker as first officer after Best of Both Worlds.

The first I'm hearing of this. Dodged a freight train with that one. I too hated his voice. Wanted to punch him in the throat. I'd take that over smacking him.

Yep, and they were going to spinoff with Mark Twain captaining the enterprise. "Star Twain" but they went with voyager instead.

Mark Twain: I do declare maximum warp, at this engagement young man!

Other unrealized potential: Mark Twain as the borg queen, Mark Twain attaining the powers of Q, Mark Twain romance with Troi's mom

They also thought of a monkey but he was asking too much money.

Just finished watching Time's Arrow II.

On the whole, I enjoyed it though it was far from great TNG. As I already indicated, Twain was horrible.

There were unintentional laughs too: When Part II starts, our crew is already impeccably dressed even though they have no money. And even if they stole it, they look like they got the perfect sizes. EDIT: I guess Data's poker playing came into play again.

I wish we'd found out more about the aliens. The episode would've been better off exploring these aliens a bit more and focus less time on Twain.

My favorite part of this two-parter?

Picard and Guinan.

For a second, I thought they were going to hook up. There was an undeniable chemistry between the two.

Which is brilliant given that at this point they hadn't met yet!!

I guess Data first sent them the money and then made the device that allowed him to find them...
