A theory about Nero and the Romulans

Tom Servo

Commodore
Commodore
Here is the situation, Nero is back in time, he can save Romulus, but also has advanced technology. In the film Nero talks to Pike on the Narada and states that not only will he save Romulus, but he will destroy the Federation so that she can be truly saves. This implies that either Nero has already informed Romulus of future events, OR plans to after the destruction of the Federation.

Here is how I see it though. Nero had a 25 year gap between destroying the Kelvin, and destroying Vulcan. In that time, what if he did go to Romulus? He literally shows up on their doorstep and says HI, LOOK WHAT I GOT! It's a perfect situation for the Romulans. Nero tells them about their impending doom, so that they can start making preparations for the Supernova. Nero then tells them about the plan to destroy the Feds. It's perfect for them. They have a supership, from another time, that can easily take out anything the Feds could throw at them. Nero seems like one who loves his home world. With this superweapon, he can attack and destroy all the Federation planets, and Romulus will have no responsiblity. He can act like a rouge, even though he may be been acting in league with the Romulan government the whole time. Yes, he told Pike he and the Romulans stand apart, but maybe he was lying. And if something happens, and Nero fails, the Romulans can sit back and say, we had nothing to do with it.

sounds perfectly plausible to me. I've heard loads of people bleating 'why didn't he warn the Romulans etc etc', but how do we know he didn't?

Maybe he does warm Romulus which start researching red matter necessary to prevent the supernova but accidentaly cause it doing so making it that it actually was nero's fault all that time.

I'm guessing that IF he let Romulus know, they may or may not have believed him, but odds are, they'd have taken his ship away from him and confined him (and his crew) as a possible threat to them.

I know in the comic he got thrown in Klingon prison for that long time span, but I don't think the Romulans would have let him roam around free with his knowledge, much less that ship.

At the very least they'd have gone "Fuck me, that's a hell of a ship! And, like, wow, look at all this fancy tech. Let's copy it it and put these torpedoes in all our ships!"

Then five minutes after the credits rolled, the Federation is conquered...

Except it's not. It's a mining platform. Sure it has advanced tech, but not as much as a late 24th century warbird or galaxy class starship.

However, he is much more technologically advanced then the Rommies of that era as well. Why would they try and challenge him? He pretty much is giving them a free pass.

Did Nero even have the time to visit Romulus?

He was captured almost immediately by the Klingons, and had only gotten free the night Kirk and his green girlfriend got caught by Uhura. (Which was 25 years later.)

The next day or two he was attacking Vulcan, and inbetween stopped long enough to figure out when Spock would emerge from the time rift, capture Spock, and drop him off on Delta Vega.

I'm not so sure he had anything more on his mind than doing what was needed at the moment, let alone the time to do more.

Plus they'd have got hold of a Klingon mindsifter and took whatever knowledge Nero had, then killed him as being too dangerous (or mind-wiped him.)

Whether he had time or not, if he did he could have used the red matter he had and caused a black hole that would have sucked in the sun that would go supernova. I didn't read the comics but in the movie it just stated a sun went supernova, a supernova so great it could destroy the galaxy. If it was romulus's sun then it would have destroyed romulus a lot quicker I would think. So he wouldn't need to prep anyone he could destroy the feds then get rid of the problamatic star.
