A History Of My Progression In Google Sketchup

Patrickivan

Fleet Captain
Newbie
I thought it would be fun just to post my ship designs starting with Paint, and then into Google Sketchup. Everything is in order of creation.

Feel free to provide feedback. I have to remake all these ships since they were wiped from my computer.

My take on the original Enterprise concept. I tried to stay true yet add details

The new ship you're working on reminds me a lot of that one WIP ship Sojourner had a while back that everyone hated for no good reason.

The Federation designs are quite bland, ugly even.
I like the sketch of the Klingon ship; it's a nice variation on the BoP-theme.

THIS one. Work on developing THIS one:

I certainly have my ideas on where I think you should GO with this one, too. Think "MORE spindly". With maybe a touch of TMP drydock thrown in.

if i had the $ and your willing to sell id so buy this from you :)

plus its my favorite Picture in this thread :) :techman:

I see a nice progression there. I can't help but think it's time for you to step up to a better 3D program. I think you've gone far enough in Sketchup.

Well, for you could buy this and simply put the head/neck on the aft portion of the main hull; glue the engines on backwards, and you're done.

i would but thats a D7 not a K'tinga class your suggesting plus i already bought that one but at that price im very tempted to buy another :)

I can see them, tho the last image is really small.

How about this? It's a little bit updated from the smaller one. If you look closely, you can see a little person standing on the side of bridge. Tiny- red.

Could you post the link or image of it? I'm curious.

Hey, I'm no Deg... I admit that.

I can't say that I'm too crazy with the "wings" on the BoP type. There's just something off on them, and I haven't really thought about a solution.

I love this one:

Thanks! I had fun with it.

I have an idea what you're talking about. However this one has a bunch of tractor emitters along the underside (see my wordpress) and the nacelles move to maximize warp efficiency as needed for different size/ mass ships. I've decided that these changes are no small task and require a great deal of work and calculations. Unlike for example Voyager's in the far future.

Thank You... A nice compliment if I ever got one... I think you made this offer way back when I posted last year. Maybe I can do something for you.

I'd like to try something new, but can I and my computer handle it? It can barely handle anything too complex. Hell, I have a TNG style primary hull with each deck, corridor, and plumbing, and it just shut my GSU down when I tried to save it. But I'm open to suggestions. I have Compaq Presario with an AMD Athlon II

Dude, it really wasn't that simple. There were a lot of serious modifications, including custom made fibreglass additions. Don't take my word for it. Ask Forbin what kitbashing can be like. Plus this wasn't even a super great example of a kitbash.

He hasn't even come close to the limits of Sketchup yet.

I agree. There's much more I need to learn here. Hell, I can't even get the damned rendering add on to work.

But I would like to try something more involved at some point.
