My church sends mission teams to Haiti on a regular basis. One got back just weeks ago.
If half of those Americans living within 2 miles of a Coinstar machine donated just $1 in spare change to the Red Cross, it would raise more than $65 million to support American Red Cross lifesaving services in communities nationwide!
Aid is coming in from all over, but they're having difficulties getting it to the people; the airport and harbor are badly damaged, and so are the roads. There's still nowhere near enough medical help for the injured.![]()
^This.I'm only hopeful that the aid isn't limited to fixing the needs for Now..but the future of that poor nation.
Throwing money at Haiti won't solve the problem. It's like giving a drunk a bottle.^This.I'm only hopeful that the aid isn't limited to fixing the needs for Now..but the future of that poor nation.
I hope that the nations that are sending aid will use this as an opportunity rebuild with better construction standards and help lay the foundation for an ethical government and an economy that provides the people a decent
standard of living.
Sorta flies in the face of that whole conservative "let the charities help the poor" mantra.Throwing money at Haiti won't solve the problem. It's like giving a drunk a bottle.^This.I'm only hopeful that the aid isn't limited to fixing the needs for Now..but the future of that poor nation.

Anyway, Who's running Haiti? No one, say the people I wouldn't send a nickel to Haiti. I doubt one-tenth of what's intended to go there, via any type of donations, actually makes it into the hands of, or by means of, helping people.

Yes, and a lot of prisoners have apparently escaped from collapsed prisons, which makes matters even worse.Aid is coming in from all over, but they're having difficulties getting it to the people; the airport and harbor are badly damaged, and so are the roads. They're also having problems with desperate people roaming the streets armed with machetes and the like. They're looking for food, water, whatever they can find and they'll take it however they can. That's becoming a strong problem against getting the needed supplies and personnel into the field where it's needed so badly.
^^ No, my donation to Save The Children won't be greasing anybody's palm.
