2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (LOL NO)

The Cubs pull off a 4 game sweep of the Giants. Some good offense in the first 3 games, not so much in game 4.

The last 2 games featured some shaky relief pitching. I'm not sure anyone can be trusted as a closer right now, here's hoping for more offense to offset that.

You mean loading the bases and then three straight punchouts wasn't part of the plan?

God, Tommy Hunter took years off my life when he was on the O's, and now he's on my actual favorite team. :barf:

If it was, Rondon needs another plan. Not so many high blood pressures since Mitch Williams.

Jays sweep the Yankees and close to within a game and a half in the AL East.

Oh, I'll see that and raise you a Marmol!

Nice win for the Mets tonight but it's so weird seeing Jose Reyes as a Rockies.

Addison Russell's nickname for Kyle Schwarber is "Fast Hulk".

As long as he doesn't turn green and start tearing up the joint.

The Cubs are continuing an interesting streak. Milwaukee's SP Jungmann just exited the game after 2.2 innings with 81 pitches thrown and having walked Haren to load the bases.

Even if Russell can't make something happen (he didn't), the team is still killing starting pitchers right now.

In the San Francisco series, Jake Peavy went the longest at 5 innings.

Well, the wheels have come off the O's bus in spectacular fashion, as they just got no-hit by Hisashi Iwakuma.

Rondon played with fire again (2nd & 3rd with no outs), but blew the save this time. Is he capable of throwing anything other than a slider?

Apparently you can stand on the tarp and/or ledge to make a catch as long as you do it before falling into the crowd.

But seriously, Rizzo could have broken a leg or ankle between the tarp and wall or in that folding seat. Still a hell of an effort.

I don't put that blown save on him. Good hit off of a good pitch and the passed balls weren't all on Rondon. Montero made up for any mistakes though.

Re: 2015 MLB Season - Can the Cubs FINALLY win the World Series? (No.)

Technically wild pitches that Miggy says he should have blocked.

But I was sitting there thinking "one good rainbow curve after all the sliders and the batter would freeze". That's assuming Rondon can throw a good curveball.

The Cubs went power mad today, hitting 5 home runs (2 by Schwarber). Good to see Schwarber come out of his mini-slump.

Fowler was on base 4 times and had a homer.

7 game winning streak, 17 over .500. If Pittsburgh loses tonight, the Cubs will be a half game behind them.

Any way you look at it, they're taking care of their own business. It's been a log 7 years since they were this good.

And Schwarber gets to DH all weekend, too.

The Mets look good right now too. Pittsburg is rolling into town, unfortunately we will be starting with Colon and Niese, so not sure how much help we can be. Never know what we're going to get with Colon. Niese has been solid the last few outings but again, don't know what you will get with him.

As an aside, Timby. What do you think realistically Cespedes will sign for. I've watched every game he's played since joining the Mets. I think he's a decent player, he has better plate discipline then I thought he would. Yeah he still strikes out a lot but from watching him, they aren't easy SO. He usually runs the counts up, even when he does strike out. I like the defense he plays, he seams to gel pretty quickly with the team. Should the Mets seriously go after him in the Free Market?

That's a plus as far as getting another hitter in the lineup, but he's been OK in LF.

Nothing super hard, but he had to run a few balls down. I don't think he's the liability out there some people thought he'd be.

The problem is if he keeps putting weight on every year like he has (though, to his credit, he's been relatively stable since coming up to the majors), then he's going to have issues, even in a relatively "easy" left field like Wrigley's, because having that much bulk combined with mediocre instincts for reading the ball off the bat is a recipe for trouble.
