2012 NFL Offseason

Apparently Randy Moss wants to come out of retirement. Maybe the Bears should have a look.

I wouldn't. He was, for the most part, a one trick pony in New England (9/post routes), and when he started failing to create separation, New England decided to part ways.

Cheers.

NFL: Saints defense had 'bounty' fund
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7638603/new-orleans-saints-defense-had-bounty-program-nfl-says

I like the Saints so I'm a bit surprised by this assuming it passes muster. If, indeed, that's the case, they should lose draft picks as far as I'm concerned.

Followup in the twittersphere:

Judy Battista: Gregg Williams, then with Saints, now the Rams def. coord. "administered" the bounty system. Not good. At all.

LaCanfora: According to the NFL, the bounty pool totaled upwards of $50K at times w/ payments for "knock-out hits" w/ players and coaches contributing

Aaron Wilson (Balt. Sun): Roger Goodell: 'Payments here are particularly troubling because they involved not just payments for ‘performance,’ but for injuring players

Battista: NFL says neither Sean Payton nor Mickey Loomis did anything to stop the bounties when they became aware of them.

Makes Spygate look like a walk in the park in comparison.

The NFL is all about cleaning up their perceived image as an overly violent sport. Hits to the head, hits on QBs and defenseless receivers, etc.

Now it comes out a team knew about, but turned a blind eye to a bounty pool that encouraged injuring opposing players. I'm curious to see how hard they will come down on this one.

Gregg Williams might possibly get suspended as well.
Let us also not forget that there is the potential for civil lawsuits from players present/former (i.e. Kurt Warner/Peyton Manning).

It's kind of fitting that Williams has now joined Fisher with the Rams, as they're both dirty coaches.

I wonder if this was part of that first preseason game where the Saints blitzed miraculously against the 49ers for no reason. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, but I'm glad the 49ers had a much better response when it counted in the playoffs.

Pretty shocking news. Williams isn't a Dick LeBeau or Jim Johnson (RIP), but I always liked him. I think a year's suspension would be fitting, and if it's true that the Saints knew and turned a blind eye, forfeiture of draft picks. Who to I wonder?

In a game where it's not unheard of for a player to be paralyzed by a hit, this shit is inexcusable. If you don't seriously injure someone, you sure as hell could end his career by permanently injuring a knee or something of the like. Not to mention the cumulative negative effects of concussions. Damn straight they could be subject to lawsuits brought by former players--who can definitely afford top notch lawyers.

Forfeiture of draft picks damn well better happen, and the coaches involved need to be let go by their respective teams or pushed out by Goddell. The latter won't happen, but it should happen.

I wonder what the Ryans think of this... didn't Buddy have something of a headhunting reputation, proven or not?

Well Rexy oversaw the tripping incident against Miami. And he likes feet.

But I'm a Pats fan so this will immediately get overlooked because I am biased.

I really don't get the obsession with Ryan's "obsessed with feet/foot fetish" thing. Of all the reasons to mock another coach, that seems the most... bizarre. Pats fan or not, it just makes me roll my eyes. Maybe cause I don't think feet are either particularly nasty or attractive, they just... kinda are.

And you know, as bad as the Bounty Bowl (especially the second) was, that says more I think about a certain segment of Philly sports fans than Ryan. If anything it's Ryan's own non-denial that's more damning than anything the idiot loudmouth Jimmy Johnson says.

well LA will not be going a football team anytime soon! The viking are staying in minn. and Jacksonville is not going Any where too:lol:

There's still a chance the Rams will move back. They rejected St. Louis' first dome renovation offer.

Yep -- there's a lot of speculation that there's a shell game going on with Kroenke's attempt to buy the Dodgers, in that there's talk of an under-the-table deal between him and Frank McCourt to use the land nearby Dodger Stadium to build a football field.

It's possibly true. He came off as a hothead last year, but he might not do something that calculated.

I wonder how much his attempt to stomp Dietrich-Smith's head in the Packers game falls into the realm of calculated attempts at injury.
