2011 MLB Season Discussion

Odd, is he still under contract to the Cubs orginzation?

No. After the Cubs passed on him in favor of Quade for the top job last offseason, he took his ball and went home, taking the manager's position at AAA LeHigh Valley in the Phillies' organization.

According to sources, Ben Cherington is to be named as the new GM of the Red Sox. The man has a lot of work and a lot of hard choices ahead of him.

First thing you do is send the party animals packing. If Lackey, Beckett and Lester want to slack off during a run for the wild card, you don't want them on your team regardless of skills.

If you want to pick one to keep, do so, but keep him on a short leash so you can reclaim the dressing room.

Lackeys gone. Beckett, maybe. I still like him as a pitcher and would hope if given a kick in the ass, he would give a shit. Lester on the other hand you have to keep. He is a cost controlled young stud lefty starter. That doesn't grow on trees, and you would significantly reduce the rotation of he left, especially on a team that needs more pitching, not less.

I wouldn't trade Beckett away unless I was guaranteed to get fair value in return. Lackey is 100% gone no matter what, though.

Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz hit 6 HR during the series to set a new record for most HR hit in a 7 game series. I think they also said during the broadcast last night that all of his 13 hits in the series went for extra bases.

Not playoff related, but...

That Taco Bell commercial with Brian Wilson just kills me every time I see it. Classic!

"I'm Black Ops!"

This has to mean he's a free agent at the end of the year...

As for the Brian Wilson commercial, that wacko needs his head checked.

Bud Black was the pitching coach for the Angels back when Lackey was still there.

They can have him. I wouldn't be surprised if the Red Sox end up eating the majority of his contract in order to get that deal done.

The Red Sox tried to make the Cubs eat Lackey's deal as compensation for snatching Theo.

Wow. That was one exciting game. Great starting pitching on both sides, a 1-0 game going into the top of the 9th, an aggressive steal of 2nd, great base running by Andrus to take 2nd, and then two deep fly outs to score the runs. Then Feliz comes in and after giving up a leadoff walk saves the game.

Back to Texas at a game a piece.

Hey, they had to try.

Now if the Cubs would provide fair compensation, this thing would be over. I don't understand how they feel that they can dictate the terms of this trade. Theo is the Red Sox asset, and while they are willing to release him to go to the Cubs, the Cubs need to realize that the Marlins just traded 2 of their top 10 prospects to get Ozzie, so the Red Sox compensation should START with a similar package. If they don't, the Red Sox would be more then happy to just have Theo sit on his hands for a year.

They should have charged Pujols with an error for that bit. Andrus is out by a mile if that throw isn't deflected.

Still, can't bitch about results. The Rangers won, and that's all that counts.

Damn, that's what I get for going to bed after the 8th.

Odds are I'm moving to the West Coast in the spring, itl'l be weird to atually see the end of the game.
