2011 MLB Season Discussion

Nice job Cards. :techman:

(just heard that during last night's Game 6, Hugh Jackman was at that same time doing a one-man show on Broadway, and he stopped his own show three different times to check on the score and announce it to the audience!)

Funny article. What happened to Freese's final Home Run ball from Game 6?

Though the mad scramble for David Freese's(notes) home run ball looked like a spontaneous mess on Thursday night, the truth is that Dave Huyette (center) and his friend Jeremy Reiland had already played the scenario through their minds several times.

The two were sitting in a pair of outfield bleacher seats they had purchased on StubHub and knew that each batter in the St. Louis Cardinals' wild 10-9 win over Texas Rangers in Game 6 of the World Series could be the one to make history. Every time someone came up to bat, Busch Stadium's large batter's eye to the right of their seats provided a constant reminder that a valuable piece of Cardinals' lore could land just a few feet away.

Reminds me of being in grad school at night in the Bronx from 03-05. During the Yanks-Sox playoff series those years, the prof would send someone down to their car from time to time to check the score during class. This was pre wi-fi and smartphones so we had to rely on the old AM radio.

Also, curse my sleepy old body. My wife went to bed at normal time, but I wanted to stay up and see the end. Naturally, I fell asleep in the 8th.

Wonder if this will be a factor in convincing Pujols to stay.

The only factor in Pujols staying will be money, and after the Cardinals lowballed him by more than $50 million last offseason (and since they're broke), the chances of them keeping him are 50 / 50 at best.

^ Do Pujols or Fielder have the range to snare all those wild throws from Castro?

The reason Mark Grace got to be so good was Shawon Dunston, but Grace was a much smaller guy.

I would lean towards Fielder. He's a few years younger and, I think, slightly less injury prone.
