This weekend i went into Brooklyn to visit a friend for the weekend. On my way out the door, i grabbed a handful of CDs to listen to on the drive. One of them was Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon". I haven't listened to this cd in years and was totally blown away (once again) at how PERFECT it is! I mean, musically, creatively, vocally...it's freaking orgasmic! I can only think of two other albums that i loved to this extent, "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" by Derek and the Dominoes and "Who's Next" by The Who. What albums would you say are, for you, practically perfect? ETA: yes, i am a dinosaur.
"The Stone Roses" - not a single duff track on the album, so that at least makes it better than most Beatles albums. The only other album that I could say was near-perfect was "The Holy Bible" by the Manic Street Preachers. (yes, the second track title contains a glaring grammatical error )
I could think of loads, but the following reflect my current listening tastes best: Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull, Blue Train by John Coltrane, Roxy & Elsewhere by Frank Zappa, Paranoid by Black Sabbath (I prefer Master of Reality, but it has way more filler than Paranoid), The Inner Mounting Flame by Mahavishnu Orchestra and Close to the Edge by Yes (not a single bad moment on the whole record).
Albums I can listen to from beginning to end are rare, so I'll throw in only The Wall by Pink Floyd and Nevermind by Nirvana.
The Reign of Kindo - Rhythm Chord & Melody I can honestly say that I've never skipped a track on this album. here's a live studio performance of a song from their EP [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIZRIf1LnSY[/yt] and one from their album [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD9IT9a63RM[/yt]
That and Wish You Were Here. Don't think I've ever heard them from a CD though.. Pah! -you're listening to CD's!
I hereby demand and "Best of" album should be banned from this thread. For that matter, so should Coldplay.
The soundtrack to 2001: A Space Odyssey Kraftwerk's Computer World Everything the Alan Parsons Project ever recorded, especially Stereotomy and Ammonia Avenue Mannheim Steamroller's original Christmas album
Let's see, off the top of my head (that haven't been mentioned yet): Bat Out Of Hell, the first Blondie Album, the first Pretenders album, She's So Unusual and The Dream Of The Blue Turtles. I will probably think of a few more.
Since the Beatles were mentioned, I must say that Help! is pretty near perfect for me. It has 13 really good songs and one average one. American Saturday Night by Brad Paisley and Need You Now by Lady Antebellum are two recent CDs that rank very high with me. There are plenty of albums that I very much enjoy. It's hard for me to think of ones that are "perfect," though.
