Zune Question

Just scored a Zune, 8 gig. Fresh out of the box... how long does this thing need to charge? I can't get it to boot up, all it displays is a very very faint battery icon.

Been charging off the XBOX 360 for a half hour... does it need to sit overnight or something?
 
3 hours for a full charge. You'll know when the battery is full when the battery icon turns bright green and not the usual gray or what have you.

BTW, congrats. I feel that Zune's are much better than iPods. :D
 
mine's a first gen 30gb and it powers up when I plug it in after it's been dead
you should see the zune logo plus a loading bar as it boots up, and then the main menu after around 5 seconds
try it on your PC with the Zune software, which I must say is a really great music library app :techman:
I like putting it on shuffle and watching the album art and if it's available pictures of the artists :D
 
Keep the Zune software open. That way you can add songs and the like as it's charging. Also, you can keep updated on the status of the Zune.
 
yeah it looks amazing! why they didn't make it a phone I have no idea because then it would be perfect :D
 
Ok I'm loving this thing. Awesome. Now, in a nutshell... are these paid subscription things through the Zune service worth it? How's the selection?
 
The battery icon will turn green when it's fully charged, BTW.

I have a 1st gen 30GB Zune in black and still love it. If the 32GB Zune HD is prices right, I may be upgrading. :)

As for the Zune Pass, it is a lot cheaper than iTunes in that you pay a flat rate and download as much as you want. However, the music has DRM (digital rights management) attached to it...so if you cancel your subscription, you lose the rights to the music.
 
Yeah see I'm tired of being made fun of for my tank of a 30 GB...time to blow those iPod Touch fanboys away with an HD :)

what I love about Zunes is that the first gen has the same firmware as the newest 120gb units which is why I haven't upgraded yet
the only 'new' things that would possibly compel me to get a new zune (other than the HD) are the squircle touchpad and larger storage capacity
totally throws 'planned obsolescence' out the window, but I think it's brilliant that microsoft decided to bring the old units and give them some of the same functionality of the new units . . . makes for a longer life of the device
 
Ok a bunch of my songs don't have album art. Zune picked an album art at random and attached it to these songs. How do I fix this?
 
right click is your friend :D
you can either search for album info and pick the right info from a list it gathers together based on a search query
or you can choose an image from your computer

[edit] I really like the Now Playing screen
there's a little icon next to the 'next track' button :techman:
it's like a really cool album art wall
