"Red Harvest"

Topless Robot Post About the book

"This isn't a hypothetical. Red Harvest will be the book sequel to the zombie Stormtrooper book Deathtroopers, both by author Joe Schreiber, and as you can tell be the cover, the zombie threat has been upgraded from Stormtroopers to Jedi. "

Really....really!? Did Deathtroopers (crap-tacular as it was) do that good? And is there a fad or trend that Lucasfilm won't whore the SW brand out to these days?

Besides, I thought the mega-crossover "Vector" event cover the "Zombies in the SW Verse" ground pretty well.

That seems like a dumb idea. I've been wanting to check out the "Zombie Stormtrooper" book by Schrieber but Zombie Jedi???? I'm not feeling it. I can buy "Zombie Stormtroopers" a LOT easier. At the risk of sounding too geeky, how is a "Zombie Jedi" supposed to work, exactly anyway? I would think that higher brain functions would be necessary for accessing the force. Would the midichlorians survive in a corpse??? It will be interesting to see what Schrieber does with such a concept.

I actually really enjoyed the "Death Troopers" book. It was pretty creepy and well written. I'll definitely check out a sequel... at the library for free :D

I thought it was a toss away book. I actually put it down for a couple weeks, then remembered it and finished it up. Didn't "work" for me.

For one thing it felt more suited to a short-story or a comic. I thought the "Vector" event was a far superior take on the ideal. And it just felt...light, hollow, no real meat to the story.

Sounds like a silly gimmick at first blush, but then I wondered...why not? The Force is a "life force." If it were strong enough, could it keep someone apparently alive who was actually dead?

But they need to take an approach that comes from the logic (such as it is) of Star Wars. Something more original than moaning, staggering and brain-eating perhaps. ;)

As I keep saying: They did it better with "Vector"

When a terrible vision reaching more than 4,000 years into the future alerts the secret Jedi Covenant to the importance of Taris, they activate an operative already on this planet overrun by Mandalorians. There, in the deadly Undercity, a monstrous, ancient threat is unleashed that plunges Zayne Carrick, the Padawan accused of killing his fellow students, into an adventure which will eventually span four thousand years and involve Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and the principals of the Legacy series.[4]
The ancient threat in question was the Muur Talisman, a golden Sith artifact in the shape of a insect-like creature with one jeweled eye. The Muur Talisman was created by Karness Muur, a Sith Lord, and had the power to infect all non-Force-sensitive beings with the Rakghoul Plague. The talisman also carried Muur's spirit, which tried to take over the mind of any Force-user who wore it, and, through him/her, control the Rakghouls.
And "Tales of The Jedi"

Korriban zombies, also known as Korriban Sith zombies, were semi-sentient, undead humanoid predators native to the Sith tombworld Korriban. Originally created prior to 7,000 BBY by Sith King Dathka Graush's experiments using Sith alchemy and magic to reanimate corpses, the creatures were soon discovered to be capable of creating more of their kind by biting living sentient beings. After a tumultuous fifty-year reign, Graush was assassinated, and the spirits animating the zombies were collected in a crystal that was buried with him in his tomb located in Korriban's Valley of Golg.
For the next seven millennia, the zombies served as guardians of the tombs of the Sith Lords in both the Valley of Golg and the Valley of the Dark Lords.

At least these two kept with the ideal that the Sith were as much alchemist trying to beat death as they were Force users.

It sounded a lot like Vector to me as well. Although at least that fit within the Star Wars mythos by explaining it using the Sith.

Believe it or not, I guess it is.

If you got to Entertainment Earth's website, they even have bobble heads for it. :wtf::wtf:

Yeah, I thought the samething too.
Who the hell would want a Zombie Stormtrooper bobble head???

However, Lucas is slick.
It gives him a new reason to market Star Wars for Halloween.
Can you say: FrankenVader?;)

Those bobbleheads are pretty cool looking. I'm tempted to get all four, and Vader as the Frankenstein monster is positively inspired. :)

You mean, they shouldn't be looking for brains ... BRAINS!!! They should be looking for midichlorians ... MIDICHLORIANS!!!

You know, it actually too me a few minutes to get the joke behind the title.

It is supposed to be a play on Blue Harvest, right?

It sounds like someone's crossover fan fiction to me. I like the concept of it but purely as a non-canonical and non-serious idea.

It was actually originally named Black Orchid, but was changed because it sounded too "romance novel-y"

Actually I believe Red Harvest is a prequel to Death Troopers, not a sequel.

You're right, it explores the origin of the virus. It looks like it is going quite a bit back. Sue Rostoni has apparently stated that it will be set around 4,000 BBY. Though not all of the novel can be set that far back if they want to tie it to "Deathtroopers", at least some of it has to show how it goes from what might be "Sith magic" to Imperial Bio-technology.

I liked Death Troopers and look forward to Red Harvest. I hope it's as a quick and fun a read as the first.

The novel is incredibly short. I'm glad here they didn't bother with the hardcover and just immediately released it as a paperback because at its length it isn't the best value for money as a hardcover.

I got it in hardcover for about ten bucks through a book club. Read it Halloween night. Very cool.

Not thrilled with the prequel idea. Would rather a continuation, but whatever.
