Throughout the Trek shows we stumble upon things that can go wrong with the transporter. Hoshi, Barclay, Bones and Pulaski are among those who have misgivings about using the transporter.

Death is the worst result that can happen. Even Spaceballs picked up on how things can go wrong while being beamed from A to B (President Scroob got to see his back and refused to be ever beamed again). So being reassembled with your face looking backwards is also an option.

Transporter scramblers are disgusting as they are meant to kill, like poor Trentin Fala. And I'm not sure, if the world was ready for two Rikers or two Kirks. The Tuvix incident is my favorite. I'm wondering what would have happened, if Lon Suder and Joran Dax would have been merged (or rather Suder and Ezri during her Zhian'tara). I know it is very unlikely that both would have met before Jadzia's or Suder's death).

One of the Weyouns was killed by a transporter accident and they never found out how and who was responsible. Obviously no traces were left behind.

Getting younger via transporter has its advantages, though Picard and Ro didn't like it whereas Guinan enjoyed it.

Please feel free to discuss....

I vote for the Sonak/Ciana* style deforming. With all disrespect to TUVIX, the Jeff Goldblum fly approach is more memorable than merging two regular players into a composite guest star.

And yet, with today's remastered effects, you might use images of the older shows' actors to create similar plots. Since there was a K-PAX film, perhaps a K-Pock merging would be dramatically feasible as well. Or humorous in the case of a McOck. Obviously you lose half of the actors' in the process, CGI or not....

(*This Admiral died in the TMP novelization......in the screwy transporter.)

We had McoCK without transporter accident - when Spock transferred his Katra to McCoy. But a physical mixture of both would be even more funny than Tuvok and Neelix.

Deformed piles of burnt flesh would allow for a decent Halloween episode, though.

Or another G-rated Robert Wise snoozefest. The transpo-accident was the fricking highlight!

As for McOck (that's better), there's a concept TAS woulda and shoulda done....without freaking out the Saturday morning watchers.

Reverse aging via transporter is not a good idea for Naomi Wildman - she would be turned into a gamete....

Vanishing Point has always stuck with me. Moreso than the morality of Tuvix or the horrors of TMP, largely because it was kind of hellish and has awful repercussions on the mind.

Favorite? President Skroob getting his head on backwards in Spaceballs.

Which is to say, I can't say as I actually like any of the transporter malfunctions depicted in ST. (And we mustn't forget the little incident in an early episode of ENT, in which transportees arrived with debris rather painfully embedded in their skin.

According to Stephen King's "The Jaunt", teleportation via transporter is only viable while the subject is asleep. Someone tried to be awake - and paid it with his mental health. Much to Reg Barclay's horror....:D

I forgot to mention Scotty with his plan to survive in a transporter for a long time. He made it whereas Franklin didn´t materialized and was just gone. I don´t know if this is prefareable over being materialized as deformed body.

Maybe this is more merging, but Our Man Bashir is my favorite Transporter gone awry episode.

Forgot about this episode. Rewatched it on Pluto TV recently. Garak was hilarious in it. As were Rom and Eddington by trying to save the patterns of Sisko, Kira, Dax and Worf.

I have difficulties to make a distinction between transporter incident and accident. For me, accidents results in death or deformation, incidents in funny phenomenons like body-switches, reverse aging etc....

Being killed by a transporter is moot for Weyoun - but better dispersed with all ones molecules in outer space than being merged with Dukat (Weykat, Duyoun).

As to the real life: the Bennifer transporter accident has been split/divorced into Lopez and Affleck again. Not sure if they used the same procedure like they used on Tuvix.

Obviously nobody wants to get younger via transporter, enjoying a second youth.

And similarly...
