Hopefully this thread will last a little longer than my attempted best movies of the 2000s thread. I was thinking of all the great movie quotes I've heard in new movies over the past nine years, and decided to start a thread where I could reminisce about some of my favourites and encourage others to do the same about theirs.
Several of my picks aren't all that impressive out of context, but were chosen mostly because they warm by nerdy, comic book movie-loving heart. A few were crowd-pleasing moments that just thrilled me, while others were lines that moved me with their insights and/or romanticism. I'll leave it to everyone else to tell which are which.
When I started out, I didn't plan to pick up one from every year between 2000 and 2009, but the list turned out that way (with the exception of 2009). See if you can do the same, but feel free not to (if there are too many of your favourites in one year, for example).
1. "You are what you love, not what loves you."
- Donald Kaufman, "Adaptation." (2002)
2. "God loves you just the way you are...but He loves you too much to let you stay that way."
- Ashley, "Junebug" (2005)
3. "Baby, you are gonna miss that plane."
- Celine, "Before Sunset" (2004)
4. "THIS IS...SPARTA!"
- King Leonidas, "300" (2006)
5. "He is the cheese to my macaroni."
- Juno McGuff, "Juno" (2007)
6. "Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?"
- Frank, "Donnie Darko" (2001)
7. "Is that what they say?"
- Magneto, "X2: X-Men United" (2003)
8. "I just don't want you to hate me."
- Randy 'The Ram' Robinson, "The Wrestler" (2008)
9. "People will die. I'm a man of my word...HAHAHAHA!"
- The Joker, "The Dark Knight" (2008)
10. "Wilson! I'm sorry."
- Chuck Noland, "Cast Away" (2000)
I didn't pick a line from 2009, but if I had to, I'd probably go with "Wunderbar!", "That's a bingo!", or "Bonjourno" from "Inglourious Basterds".
About number 10: Wilson floating away just before that line and the line itself are the most simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking things I've ever seen in a movie.
