Write a Constitution?

Anyone up for a group project in Nation building? If yes then Please Submit your contribution to our Potential Constitution.

CONSTITUTIONAL PREAMBLE: Any Act of Government, Law, or Constitution that does not have the direct and regular approval of every citizen shall be deemed a Seditious Act.

Unless you have a country of one, that Preamble is not going to fly. :D

...just take the US constitution and add term limits for senators.
But if a state is lucky enough to find a senator they really like they would be forced to take their second choice! Term limits also tend to result in hired legislative staffers acquiring an inappropriate amount of influence.

Term limits for state and federal chief executives are more appropriate because there's so much power available to a single person.

I'd prefer some effective campaign reform and elimination of state governor's ability to appoint replacement senators for any longer than necessary for a special election or possibly eliminate that appointment power entirely and rely on the state legislature(s) appointing temporary replacement senators.

There should also be provisions to prevent professional association, business council, and trade union dues from being used for lobbying and campaign contributions.

I would have guessed each new sentor would hire their own people. Even so, I'll take that over senators getting bought and staying bought for decades.

Term limits aren't going to keep freshmen legislators from being "bought" or even buying their seats though. The trick is enforcing a degree of openness about who is, through financial or other means, in a position to influence the candidate, permitting the voters to evaluate the acceptability of that influence when the polls open.

I prefer the Constitution of the Year VIII (1799), in France: it's short and confusing, the way a constitution should be.

Just change any references to "Bonaparte" to "Camelopard."
