Would Archer and Kirk ever met?

Neutral Zone

Captain
Captain
I noticed in ST XI that Scotty misplaced Archer's dog ( who by this must ahve been ancient).

So, is it likely that Archer and Kirk ever met? After all Archer had gained fame through being the first to travel the stars at warp 4. Kirk was starting to make anme for himself at a very young age.

Kirk says "Hey I know that dog! What happened to it?" when the subject of Admiral Archer's beagle comes up, so I'd say yes.

And unless that alien liver transplant from "A Night in Sickbay" had some very interesting side-effects (like giving Porthos a Vulcan lifespan), I'd say it was a different dog.

Probably. Kirk said "I liked that dog." with regards to Porthos (the prized beagle) so Archer was probably an instructor/advisor at the academy and met with cadets, including Kirk.

Roberto Orci has confirmed that not only is the Admiral Archer indeed the same Captain Archer from Enterprise, but that his prized beagle is meant to be the same dog. So somehow, they figured out a way to keep canines alive a very long time. Sure it's far fetched, but so is the idea that there are green blooded Vulcans in our vacinity right now. :)

In Abrams' Star Trek Universe, if Archer and Kirk have not met yet, they very well can be.

Doesn't sound likely that Jonathan Archer from ENT would have been the Admiral Archer that Kirk met. After all, Jonathan should be addressed as "President Archer" by the 23rd century! :vulcan:

Oh noes! Not this again! :)

There's a whole thread on this somewhere, and it got pretty tedious.

Unless he and Porthos somehow went forward in time a hundred years, Archer became an admiral and worked as an instructor at SFA for a while until Scotty killed the beagle, then Archer went back again at which point he launched his political career. It makes as much sense as the TCW :D

Or he's a time-travel duplicate, and they haven't done that "Relativity" transporter thing on him yet.

Well one its Warp 5. and Kirk was almost a century after the nx-01.

No. Kirk and Archer never met. Even though kirk started out young. Archer was around 40 in the story. And kirk didn't become captain of the enterprise right away as the current star trek movie would have you to believe.

Does anybody realize these points.

1. Just because archer may have taught at the academy doesn't mean that he meant kirk. I just came out of a school of 2300. i didn't meet half the teachers there.

2. The time difference between Kirk and Archer.

3. also the dog was 1-2 years old when the first mission started. The last episode said that basically archer got another ship but that it had been a 10 year mission. that dog would have been beyond ten by the time archer became admiral.

Discounting Orci's comments for the moment, there's plenty of time between Ent and Star Trek for Archer's son, grandson, and great-grandson to all rise to the rank of Admiral. I imagine the family simply has a penchant for Starfleet service and Beagles.

For the most part that could very well be true.
I mean the descendant part. and maybe the dog part.
They could just love the dogs name not the dog itself.

Maybe Porthos was a sehlat/canine hybrid with an extended lifespan. For a subservient quadriped it displayed very little emotion. Case in point it never goes crazy with joy when Archer returns to his room and it never snarles at ensign mayweather.

Archer was stuck on old Porthos it would not surpired me if he didn't have his canine friend put in a cryogenic stae once in a while!

Forget the whole scotty and porthos moment, just look at the time lines and you will see that it was next to impossible for kirk to meet archer.
Plus, Beagles don't live really long lives.

^A helluva lot in Star Trek (any version of Star Trek) is "virtually impossible" if you think about it. But in TV/movie Trek land, where Tuvok knows Sulu knows Spock knows T'Pau knows Kirk knows Picard knows Scotty knows Data knows McCoy knows Dax knows Sisko knows Q knows Janeway etc, Kirk and Archer meeting isn't that improbable, even if it is implausable.
