Wipeout: ABC's MXC ripoff...er, remake.

I thought this was a pointless remake of MXC at first, but after viewing the previews on ABC's website this might actually be okay. They seem to have the snark of MXC down (minus the hilarious juvenile sex jokes because it's ABC), so that's a positive.

They also seem to be channeling Ninja Warrior with the nighttime course, though I doubt the Wipeout course will be anywhere near as grueling as the Ninja Warrior ones.

Here's to hoping this doesn't suck! :techman:

British Office -> U.S. Office
MXC - > Wipeout

That's my guess anyway. It won't be exactly the same, but it will still be very good in its own special way.

God, I love summer.

I think the US could do a really good version of Ninja Warrior but I don't know if this can come close to MXC. Part of the charm of MXC was this crazy Japanese show it used for its base whereas with Wipeout it is an imitation of a crazy Japanese show because we just don't really do that style of show here.

The US could never duplicate Ninja Warrior because people won't be able to deal with the high (and often fast) failure rate.

Do you think the ABC series will be more closely patterned after MXC's source material? What is it called, "Takeshi's Castle" or something?

IIRC, that format is very similar to Ninja Warrior where they start out with 100 challengers and the field is winnowed down as people move through the obstacles.

You can see glimpses of that with MXC where the stupid running down the hill game ("Get it on!") has all the people in the beginning. There are noticably fewer people in other challenges.

Anyway, I hear the people TETRIS game is also coming to America. I can't wait to see that.
