So March 17 2023, A prequal movie to Willie Wonka/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!!

https://collider.com/new-willy-wonka-movie-release-date-tom-holland-timothee-chalamet/

Also in rumorville is a Oompa Loompa movie.. Interesting.. Like minions??:vulcan:

For me its in the pile of.. Do we really need this? Is it something people have been clamoring for?? (for me.. No.. )
So they're apparently courting some top talent for Willie, looking to be late teen Early 20's age range, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet are being eye'd..

So? Thoughts on a possible Story? Him being a world traveler? Will they take some of Johnny Depp version with the Dad being a Dentist?? Having never read the book, I don't know if there is any back story avalable, and if so, there probably going to make it up as they go.
Have like 2 years so, plenty of time to discus!

Here's a crazy idea:

How about they finally adapt Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator?!

I know, crazy idea.

Actually, now that I think about it, that might one of the many Dahl adaptations Netflix is working on.

But if not...

Either way, I have zero interest in this.

This is a weird one, I really don't know any of anyone who actually wanted a Willy Wonka origin story. I'm not saying it couldn't be good, it just seems like a weird choice of movie to make.
According to Wikipedia, Netflix's Dahl adaptations are supposed to include both Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Great Glass Elevator, so I would think it would have made more sense to wait and see how they are received and if they're popular do a prequel with that Willy.

I am currently re-reading the original book with a friend, and we're talking a lot about the movies. I'd love a prequel.

Depending upon the source, the story is that the studio had the rights to film 'Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator', but, due to 'Willy Wonka' bombing at the box office, and/or Roald Dahl hating the casting of Gene Wilder and clashing with the director, Dahl withdrew the rights to filming the sequel.

But that was decades ago. Who has the rights now? Netflix has a ton of them but I don't remember if Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator was one of them.

Wikipedia says they are doing both. According to Wikipedia Taika Waititi is doing two animated series, one covering both Chocolate Factory and Great Glass Elevator and then a spin-off about the Oompa-Loompas.

I've been pretty skeptical about this film, as evidenced by my cynical first post here, but...I have to say I'm actually genuinely curious now. The trailer does feel like the film has properly captured the whimsical feeling of classic Roald Dahl while also paying tribute to the Gene Wilder film.

In other words, I've gone from zero interest to cautiously optimistic.

I do have to admit that has me curious. Time will tell if it actually gets my attention. Looks fun, regardless.

"An Oompa What-Now?" Jesus, when will this approach to dialogue die?

Something about Timothee's acting here seems very...self-conscious somehow.
Movie might be good, but I doubt I'll rush to find out.

It does look like it might actually be a decent time. Unless the reviews are terrible I'll probably check it out when it hits streaming.

I was expecting a disaster, but that this actually looks like it could be fun.
