Why wasn't Lwaxana at Troi's wedding in Nemesis?

I just realized the other day that Lwaxana wasn't at Troi's wedding in Nemesis (Troi also didn't observe the naked rule for Betazoid weddings, but I could see Troi ignoring that). Was there a reason Barrett didn't return, and has there ever been an in-universe reason devised why Lwaxana wouldnt be there?

Yes, it would've been a very small cameo, but Goldberg and Wheaton came back for equally small roles. Barrett was still doing the ship computer's voice at that time, and she wouldn't pass for another six years.

Maybe there was going to be a "Wedding 2.0" on Betazed, and she was there, making all the wedding prep people nuts...plus, ensuring the "naked" arrangements?

As for Barclay, maybe he was not crazy about the crowd of people sure to be there...or the nakedity...???

Is there any reason to think that she wasn't? Granted, we'd expect her to be invading Picard's personal space and annoying the newlyweds, but it's possible she was off socializing with other people offscreen. She did undergo character development on DS9, so maybe she's less boisterous by that point. She also has another small child, so she could've been off socializing with other parents.

That said its very odd they didn't give her a cameo, when the actress was presumably right there for the computer voice.

The same reason the O'Briens weren't there. The same reason Pulaski wasn't there. Budget. They blew their guest star budget on Whoopi Goldberg and that's all we got.

Pulaski I understand for multiple story and behind-the-scenes reasons (even if I wish Nemsis or All Good Things had acknowledged her in some way). O'Brien I'd never thought of. I don't know if I'd want him there or not. But Barrett seems like someone you'd want in there given her involvement in Trek overall and TNG specifically, the event being depicted, and being the first lady of Trek. Budget or not, would think they could've had her in the background during the wedding at least. Heck, at least have a line acknowledging her. I mean, they paid for a Janeway cameo, and she certainly wasn't an important figure in TNG.

I doubt it was budgetary. Whoopi Goldberg was well known for appearing on Trek for a very small fee because she loved it. And I doubt Majel Barrett, of all people, would have held them up for a big paycheck. Heck, she was already in the film as the computer voice.

The last time we saw Lwaxana was in The Muse, set in 2372. Is it also perhaps possible she'd died sometime between then and the wedding in 2379?

Marina Sirtis almost wasn't in the movie at all because of the insultingly low pay they offered her. BermaTrek movies were not high budget affairs.

No offense intended to you, but Sirtis is often full of crap in her stories. There's no way that Jeri Ryan would have worked for less money than Sirtis given Seven's iconic status on Voyager. Replacing Troi with Seven for budgetary reasons would have made no sense at all.

And, look, Nemesis had a budget of $60 million. In 2002. It was not a low budget movie by any means.

This is one of those "can reasonably be explained away " minor cannon oddities. Allot of good plausible explanations in this thread.

I have a feeling Lwaxana was hip-deep in wedding plans, being a single mom (again) and helping rebuild Betazed after the war. Does anyone else picture her driving the Vorta up a wall?

Possibly a similar reason to why Terry Farrell flashbacks couldn't be used in the DS9 finale: Production budgets, SAG rules (minimums, etc) that can't be waived. See also the Crispin Glover lawsuit for Back to the Future II, etc.

I don't see a live (non voice) acting credit for her after DS9 season 4, Ep 20 "The Muse" which was 5-6 years before Nemesis, so she might have not wanted to?
