Why doesn't Jon Samuel Kent aka Superboy have a Kryptonian name and what do you think it shoulld be?

I love the character of Jonathan Samuel Kent in the Super Sons miniseries. A 10-years-old boy learning to know what it means to be a superhero and at the same time showing Damien what it means to be a young boy and be a superhero. The first two series were a blast. I haven't read the third, but I'll pick it up once it's in a trade book. So why didn't Clark and Lois give him a Kryptonian name. He is a member of the House of El. His other grandfathers names are used to make his name, why not Jor-El? And if he were to get a Kryptonian name what should it be? Jon-El? Or even be given his Kryptonian grandfather's name of Jor-El? Or the name of some other member Superman's family like Lor-Von Superman's maternal grandfather and be Lor-El?

Why doesn't, in universe, he have a Kryptonian name?
If he were to get a Kryptonian name, what should it be? I like Jon-El, or even Joe-El (Joseph being Clark's middle name and a name he could use too, Joel - two syllable JoeL.)

I think I saw him referred to as Jon-El in a very recent comic.

It's certainly less awkward they didn't name him after Jor-El, seeing how that relationship (granted, they didn't find out Jor-El was still alive before Jon was ten, so they'd obviously named him long before, so it was just in hindsight it turned out to be a good decision).

Because he wasn't born on Krypton, and neither parent felt it was appropriate?

I think it was just because he was born on Earth to an Earth mother.

To the OP, you do realize that Jon has become a major part of the Superman books over the past few years and current has his own Superman book?

No, I thought he was a part of the LoSH?

Neither was Conner, but he got one. Technically though, he wasn't born. That still would establish a precedent.

That's right about Conner--he didn't get a Kryptonian name for several years though. He is back in regular continuity, BTW.

Jonathan was part of the LoSH, but has returned to the 21st century and appears to be aged up slightly again. Superman is going off Earth for a while. He will be continuing to appear in Action Comics and Jonathan is the principle character of Superman: Son of Kal-El is replacing the regular Superman series for the time being.

I think DC lost a bit of an original Kryptionian character, even if he is half Human by aging him up. Seeing him as a kid maybe taking Conner's place i n the Titans, and Conner taking on Superman's role could make more interesting stories for both. Jon learning to be like his father, learning the best way to use his powers, maybe have him accidentally hurting one of his team mates because of his inexperience. Conner could be shown as feeling inadequate to fill Superman's cape causing him to hold back too much.

Honestly I haven't read comics regularly for years, I hate having to buy issues from three different titles to get one story. It's why I wait for the trade books, the big ones that combine all the issues from different titles that are related to the stories being told.

And is it right that while Jon has been aged up Tim Drake has been aged down? SORAS has nothing on comics. Call it CoBRAS.

I agree that it was a missed opportunity aging Jon up. It was great seeing the Kent family dynamic and Jon as a youngster could have led to years of interesting stories--and it seems that Bendis aged Jon just to have him in the Legion of Super-Heroes. At the same time, it was Bendis who re-introduced Conner so Conner Superboy could easily have rejoined the LSH.

As it stands now though, Jon seems to be key to the (what used to be called) 5G story they are developing and editorial has said Jonathan will be Superman on Earth for the next few years.

I was wondering the same thing in Superman and Lois. I’m sure they do but they haven’t revealed them yet.
