Why did Seven keep wearing the catsuit?

EJA

Fleet Captain
The in-universe explanation for Seven of Nine's revealing attire was that it helped regenerate her skin and hide the unsightly things the Borg had done to her. Yet when Q's son makes her outfit vanish in season 7, we can see that her skin appears perfectly healthy. So why'd she keep it? Yeah, I know it was done by the producers to keep up the sex appeal, but is there a realistic explanation?

Possibly the bits of skin we saw as the normal parts are the only bits of her body that are normal. Or maybe the remaining bits of technology within her that couldn't be removed were going to constantly cause damage to her skin until further surgical techniques could be developed and performed on her.

Is it possible that she started off wearing it to heal her injuries, and once she was all better, decided she liked it and just kept it (or variations of it)? On the other hand, she hadn't been wearing it for very long when she decided she fully was capable of...ahem, physical pleasure with Harry Kim in Revulsion, so maybe the damage was never that bad in the first place and she just couldn't expose her skin for too long?

A little strange considering the fact that The Doctor could heal the worst radiation injuries, restore Torres's Klingon DNA back to herafter the Vidiians separated Torrs into two persons, restore Janeway and Paris back to normal after both had developed to lizards (if the events in "Threshold" wasn't just a nightmare which I think it must have been) and finally restore Tuvok and Neelix back to normal after the events in "Tuvix".

She also got to bare some skin in that episode where she fights the Rock. Again, nothing unsightly there, at least not on her arms and the top of her chest.

Because of the young male viewers TPTB tought were the main audience of Voyager. ;)

Okay, kidding aside, I would have actually liked to see her being "stripped" form her Borg stuff a little longer and perhaps getting an uniform in the end of the series. But the catsuit is also alright for me.

Which is strange since in "Dark Frontier" she had wires sticking out of her arms when playing velocity with Janeway. I guess the suits didn't like the wired look!

Don't remember that; got any screencaps? I just can't help finding it a little bit disturbing to think that despite her beauty, underneath her suit Seven is scarred.

I thought that the silver metal like uniform was to help her regenerate, not the regular catsuits.

I took the catsuits as standard civilian clothes.

Me too.

The "healing" he spoke of, given the technology should have only taken between a few hours to a few days considering Picard was still wearing Dermal patches in the end scene of The best of Both Worlds II, but only had psychological scars when he went to see his brother the next day, and many of them became Borg in dark Frontier including Seven who... This sounds much like an alcoholic falling off the wagon.

If she decided she preferred working naked, would they have stopped her no matter was was "wrong" with her body?

What about swimming?

Would she, for vanity, sparing the rest of te crews stomachs if she was still just inhuman enough, wear a larger more coverall bathing suit, et all a bathing suit at all, more than other crewmen to spare sensibilities?

Q said:
It was a mistake. I never should have picked human. I knew it the minute I said it. To think of the future in this shell. Forced to cover myself with fabric because of some outdated human morality. To say nothing of being too hot or too cold, growing feeble with age, losing my hair, catching a disease, being ticklish, sneezing, having an itch, a pimple, bad breath. Having to bathe.

Even if she was covered in seeping puss with exposed internal organs, as long as she was healthy, surely it's the not anyone elses damn business how offended and disgusted they are by her physical appearance?

I'm sick of Kim smiling all the time, gerbils have less teeth, but it would still be unfair to order him to wear a paper bag over his head if he wasn't into it, wouldn't it?

Well, Picard was only assimilated for a few days and as a "Link between Humans and Borg" possibly he was never fully assimilated to begin with (no devices in every part of his body). Seven was Borg for 17 years and had devices that couldn't be removed. That thing on her face? It's actually a massive tech part that's mostly inside her skull.

Part of her Borg form was increased height for intimidation and strength purposes, and when she was restored to human form she put on heels because it reminded her of the form she had grown accustomed to for years.

...Heck, it's something.

Seven probably kept the catsuits because they were efficient - covered her, helped her heal, and allowed her complete freedom of movement. She would have considered any aesthetic issues irrelevant.

We never did see her swimming... maybe she would have rusted? :p

^ That. She just couldn't be bothered to change it, since she didn't care.

The catsuit is fairly easy to explain away. The high heels are what make absolutely no sense (in universe).

Now I'm thinking about underwater Borg wearing flippers to help them hunt down aquatic life. the Heels could fold out into flippers, or snow shoes and that was just her last assignment before being put into a buddy movie with Kathy? And the Doctor, like those Tallosians putting that little girl back together again just assumed that it was something she was into?
