My old heating pad stopped working so I went to Wally World yesterday to buy a new heating pad. I got a $20 heating pad from Sunbeam and took it home and learned the hot setting wasn't hot. In fact, the laptop I am typing on write now feels hotter then the heating pad did (and I just turned my laptop on). I thought is was a fluke so exchanged it for another heating pad of the same model. Same thing- not hot.
So I figured 'ole Wally got a bad batch of Sunbeam heating pads & bought one from "SoftHeat." Once I got home I took the bad boy out of the package and plugged it in... it only got a little hotter then the Sunbeam. I read the directions & there is a Q & A section. One of the questions is "Why doesn't my heating pad feel hot?" (As if we actually would want our HEATING pad to get hot
) The answer is "your heating pad is specially designed for the highest heat allowed by the national[ly] recognized independent test laboratory that the electronics industries relies on for safety testing."
So now we aren't allowed to have hot heating pads?? What is the point??? So what if they can burn you (yeah I've gotten temporarily burnt, but it goes away). How are we supposed to handle these cold winter months?? What about when I really need my heating pad for therapeutic reasons??
Anyone know of any black market heating pads that are good? My sis is a massage therapist & recommended Thermophore. My parents bought one, but you have to hold onto a lever to make it heat up... it heats up really fast and gets REALLY hot so you can't sleep with it or you'll feel like you're being roasted alive. I see it has pads without the manual lever, but that only lasts for 20 minute cycles.
Any recommendations out there?
