Who was singing?

Vulcana

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
In S2 E9 the entire cast broke out in song to share their feelings and describe what was going on in the story. It must have taken a long time to write that episode (music, lyrics and story), and make it like a real musical. Does anyone know if the cast was actually singing themselves, or if it was dubbed in? If they sang themselves, a lot of them sure have good voices.

I think everyone sang their parts, but some were helped with a little autotune processing.

Thanks for everyone's answer so far. I tend to agree, but I'd like to know what actually happened, if it is available anywhere. Did they sing or was it dubbed, and/or some sang and others didn't?

Oh sorry, the soundtrack album lists all of the actors as the performing artists for the tracks they appear. I don’t recall anyone missing, with another name in their place.

The soundtrack is already available for download from music sites. The actors recorded their own songs and mimed to their tracks for filming the episode.

Celia Rose Gooding's Broadway debut was in the role of Mary Frances "Frankie" Healy in "Jagged Little Pill". (2021 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album; also nominated for 2020 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical.)

I discovered the answer. There was an interview with several of the producers about that episode. It took them 6 months to prepare, have the music written, and teach the cast to sing and dance the parts. It turns out that all of the cast sang their own parts. The producers had no idea that they could all sing, especially as well as some of them did. They didn't say anything about dubbing or enhancing any of their voices. That's so cool to know. They loved how it turned out and even said they'd do another musical episode, if it revealed itself, but that the one they did would be hard to top.

His singing parts were so minimal, I’d bet they just muddled through even if Babs Olusanmokun doesn’t have the greatest singing ability.

Could be like Willow in BtVS 'Once More, With Feeling' - she can't sing, but was sung to during the curse, and only had one line in the group sing along, "I think this line is mostly filler."

IDK about Babs specifically, but Klaus Meine of the Scorpions has an uber thick German accent when speaking, but almost no trace of an accent when singing.
It's not accent or dialect, but his hoarse voice that is not hoarse when the character sings, IIRC
