Who has used a dating agency?

I did it in the 80s pre internet, I got 2 dates out of it.

OK well you had to fill out a huge questionnaire on paper, lots of questions asking about almost every aspect of your life, what you want out of the experience, the kind of person you wish to match with. There is an interview with the lady that runs the agency, oddly I knew her via a friend who told me about her. But yeah the interview took about 40 minutes after which I did the questionnaire and then I got matched like I said with two dates.

This was all before the internet and before mobile phones so she phoned me at home and told me about the lady they found the first time and asked if she could pass on my name and phone number. Same thing happened for the second one.

I really regret that second one, we got on but I just didn't feel anything romantic for her

I used a lot of apps, and some of them had "dating agency" features, where they would tell you who you are compatible with after a bunch of personality tests. But the "match making" apps never amounted to anything vs the swipe/message apps.

Yeah well see this was pre internet and you had to do an interview one on one with the lady that owned the agency, in this case I knew her via a friend that's how I bypassed paying the joining fee. She sat you down and grilled you with lots of questions before you did the big questionnaire and then they tried to get you matches.

They had more women then man on the books too

I would actually consider this if I was really looking for a relationship because gay dating apps are basically just hookup apps and hookups are the LAST thing I'm looking for.

I’ve never used a dating agency or app because I prefer an encounter to be spontaneous in a sliding doors way. No pressure to meet their pre-conceived expectations based on a dating profile. If I tried a dating app I’d probably try the Roy from The IT Crowd approach and during the date keep saying “God, I’m such a bastard” and “I’m just a lonely loner walking down a lonely road, alone.”
