What's Going On With Robert Beltran?

I saw on the DS9 and Voyager Confessions Tumblr a number of tweets from Beltran's account that are bizarre and baffling, including slagging off fans, making several comments about folks needing to "take their meds", then turning around and demanding his feelings be respected, some anti-masking rants and dismissal of measures taken to slow down the spread of the virus thrown in for good measure.

I have not heard about that until now. But I have noticed that a lot of people everywhere are near an overload of emotional stress. (Me too) due to corona, Homeoffice, future thoughts, days getting darker, missing vacation, not being able to pursue hobbies.

Star Trek celebs are closer to „normal people“ than Hollywood celebs, who are pro‘s in hiding feelings.
If he is showing unexpected rude or strange behaviour suddenly, I would Note it under the above reasons and let him be. It is a difficult time for everyone

I've not been to conventions but from what I've read Robert is well known among his colleagues and fans for sometimes being derogatory about the show and his character at public events. It's a shame Robert resorts to an online rowing with people but telling him to F off isn't a good idea.

Did you look at his actual twitter account? I see nothing of concern on there: https://twitter.com/robertbeltran74?lang=en

ETA: Looking into it further, it's possible Beltran deleted the tweets. Here are the screenshots if anyone else is curious: https://ds9vgrconfessions.tumblr.com

ETA2: I found the exchange on twitter, or at least part of it. Hmm, it's ugly. https://twitter.com/robertbeltran74/status/1333262012965478400
The mask one is a problem, but he can have his opinions

of course actors are only human but shouldn't someone who can switch feelings and personalities on and off at the order of a director be expected to have a larger level of self control than an average person?
What Mr Beltran appears to have forgotten is that fans can easily focus their support on a different actor. But can he easily live - and make a living - without fans? It's no good idea to bite the hand that feeds you.

People have opinions and bad days, and get their buttons pushed.
Very true. Though people need to learn to walk away from social media if it elicits such a response from them, come back when they've had a chance to breath and let cooler heads prevail. These sorts of snarky attacks and petty jabs just make people look worse than if they said nothing.

I know turning the other cheek is easier said than done.

That's the trouble with everybody living their lives on social media. It is so interwoven, it's hard to step away.

I had a negative post on FB, then deleted it. It wouldn't change anyone's mind, so why associate a negative user experience with my ID/posts?

It is why I am trying not to post negative things about a certain show anymore. What's the point? (And let the record show I have complimented DSC and MB twice for not tearing up at all, yesterday!

Robert has always had a love/hate relationship with Star Trek.
The interactions in the tweets tho went beyond Star Trek, and were abt Robert's "take you meds" comment and some stuff regrading masks, and looks like things got heated

This is just so confusing, I knew Beltran was known for being less than kind to fans but this seems out-of-nowhere, Very disappointed.
There was a small argument that has been long settled since. He was provoked and said some things he shouldn't have. As it was said above, we are all human. Then sadly others who originally were not involved jumped in, retweeted and commented on his replies, and it ugly snowballed from there. Last I saw that someone dug out old tweets he made in March and if you didn't look closely you'd think they were recent. That is simply not fair.

The mask one is a problem, but he can have his opinions
That was quite confusing and if it was meant ironic, it does not always translate well on the internet. But there definitely was another tweet right after that one where he states that of course he is wearing a mask like everyone else. Unfortunately people are eager to retweet and comment on the first one, but rarely anyone sees the second one. It's all quite a big mess :(

The impression I've always had is that he's a bit of a nob who only thinks of Voyager as a seven year paycheck.

I fail to see the problem here.

It mainly stems from his frustration with how Chakotay was written on VOY, I even heard that he asked to killed off just to leave the show.

Here's the thing: Chakotay should have been the most interesting and important character on that show. His spirituality and vision quests alone made VOY stand out above the rest of the Trek series as something truly different from the formula. He would have been the rock that kept all the other crew members sane in an extraordinary situation. But then he quickly became overshadowed by Janeway, the Doctor, and 7 of 9, and the changed premise that being stuck in the Delta Quadrant was just fine and dandy and that there would be no real conflict with the crew or worry about dwindling supplies etc. to the point that his character became essentially meaningless. He was relegated to just being a cardboard commander with no real personality to speak of and no attributes for any kind of good stories past the first season. Yeah, if I were Beltran, I'd be unhappy too.
