Whatever happened to Prada, Breezy, & Windy?

I'm curious what happened to the three dogs that played Porthos over the years. After fifteen years, I suspect there's a good chance they're no longer with us, but I'm curious to know. Memory Alpha doesn't say.

I remember hearing about Breezy's passing awhile back.

Beagles are hearty dogs, so maybe one of them is still alive and kicking.

It amazes me that they had two female dogs out of the three playing the part. You'd think with the resources available they could have found male beagles!

I don't think there's ever been too much concern with matching the right gender for animal roles. Madison, the dog who played Vincent on "LOST" was female, and several of the dogs who played Lassie over the years were male. Under you can see their "undercarriage", I suspect most people can't tell the difference.

Something more notieable, I suspect, would be the the color of Porthos' fur. If you look at the season 1 and season 4 pictures at the top of the Memory Alpha entry, it's clearly not the same dog:

I love the picture on Memory Alpha. Porthos looks so manipulative

Portho's- I must relay my mission report to the romulan high council. Sabotaging the warp core ...oooh! Ball!

Most acting dogs, even Lassie, are female. IIRC it is because they have a better temperament and are easier to train.

Interesting, because both the original Lassie (Pal) and the original terrier who played Eddie on "Frasier" (Moose), both of whom were male, (as were their successors), were given up by their original owners for being too rambunctious, yet responded extremely well to training.

I got it reversed. Lassie was a female character played by a male actor. I did some digging and found two stated reasons- a male collie's coat is thicker so it would look better on screen and the males tended to be larger so little Timmy would be able to perform with Lassie longer as he grew.

It is amazing how some things just get filed and recalled wrong over the years- need to do a brain defrag soon...

That, and they require less photoshopping,if you know what I mean ;)

IIRC, the original Lassie used a male because the only available female had recently given birth and her coat was a bit less fluffy than what the director wanted. Collies have long fur that easily covers the naughty bits. :p
