Whatever happened to Anthony Call?

Melakon

In Memoriam
I'm watching "The Corbomite Maneuver" and wondered about Anthony Call, who played Dave Bailey.

There doesn't seem to be much available on him at IMDB and Memory Alpha other than he's still living, about 74, and that his last piece of film was in 1979. That was only a few years after his father, tv director Abner Biberman, died. Apparently he's not notable enough for Wikipedia to have an article on him.

Has he ever been interviewed since then, or done personal appearances?

Not much help from me, I'm afraid.

Memory Alpha has him starring in a show called Guiding Light from 1972-1975, then he was in One Life To Live from 1978-1993. Quite a stint. Presumably after such a long, successful career he could afford to step out of the spotlight.

I hope he's alive, well, enjoying retirement, and showing his grandkids his brilliant performance in the very first production episode of TOS. :)

I've never watched soap operas, so if that '78-'93 is correct, that's how I've missed him.

A great guest cast member in one of the all time best episodes. How has he never been on the convention scene ?

In his stint on OLTL his character, Herb Callison, bagged some pretty hot babes. Not bad for a guy who is best remembered for drinking OJ with Clint Howard.

He may have been interviewed for various soap magazines; it's been a long time since I used to watch him on One Life to Live, so I don't remember.

Herb Callison was one of the good guys on that soap. :techman: He was married for awhile to Dorian Lord (one of that show's best villainesses). I remember his last courtroom scenes as a prosecutor, getting Julia Medina to crack on the witness stand. He was terrific! :)

It's interesting, how a lot of OLTL actors were/are associated with science fiction. Nathan Fillion (of Firefly) played Joey Buchanan on OLTL, and his (Joey's) first adult affair was with Herb Callison's ex-wife, Dorian Lord!

Looks a bit different, but you can hear some vocal characteristics from Dave Bailey.

:)
I recognized the name of the character in the clip that Dorian was having an affair with: David Renaldi. He was played by Michael Zaslow who played crewman Darnell in "The Man Trap". My mom used to watch this soap and I would see the last 15 minutes of it when I came home from school.

OLTL invited Zaslow back to reprise the role shortly before he died (he'd been unceremoniously fired from his previous soap job when the producers found out how sick he was). It was a very sad storyline - Dorian saying goodbye to a former lover and her daughter Cassie saying goodbye to her father.

IMDB has him doing narrating work since 2003 and that he was credited with narrating Alien Encounters just last year.

Wow, I remember that, too! I wasn't into soaps, but I recall at the time it seemed everybody at school was watching that. If I recall, Zaslow's character was up to some no-good shenanigens while wearing a clown suit, for whatever reason. It was quite the event at the time...or so it seemed! :)
